Military helps Thai woman get money back from 'friend'

Glad to see the Army properly employed in the defence of the Nation. A trained, lean mean fighting machine would be ready to take his own life when given his next posting to the Damrong-dharma centre! "Sergeant Somchai, although we need your fighting skills to help combat the terrorism in the South, we have a priority posting for you to help housewives get their money back they stupidly leant to friends over 5 years ago."

Debt collectors normally turn up with brass knuckles but this lot pulls into your driveway in a tank!

Military officers have all sorts of special skills. They can even run governments I hear.

And have big guns which outclass knuckle dusters.

You do not have to HEAR, you can see it's true. Start to look around lads, unless you have the Hate military attitude.

what a delightfully pleasant planted piece of populist propaganda.

Agree with you.

What is this Damrong-dharma stuff any way ? I read something about it in an other news paper. It seems they start to promote this organisation, I never heard about it before but I've been here less than a year so there are many things that I still don't know ...

your last 10 words says it all - but I would let it worry you as there are people who have been in Thailand for years and this also applies to them.

I wish her good luck. Better luck than mine.A lawyer who was doing some transactions for us said that he was having a cash flow problem?? Despite my better judgment my wife and I loaned him baht 200,000. And he wrote a cheque payable to us. Promises were made to repay but were not honoured. We went to the boss of his Law firm and he was fired. We tracked him to his next place of work and confronted him there. More promises. We went to another lawyer and took him to court, were he wanted to settle before it came to the Judge. On our lawyers advice we agreed. Papers were signed to the affect that he would pay installments into the court. That was in 1996. You guessed it, nothing. For peace of mind we just let it drop. It would seem as it was a case of one lawyer protecting another.A slight variation on an old proverb, ;If a snake and a lawyer cross your path, kill the lawyer'! A lesson hard learnt! Like the woman in the report, I could do with the Bt.200,000 now.

My B-I-L borrowed B10,000 from me. Some time later, he asked to borrow another B10,000, and i refused, telling him that he hadn't even started paying back the first loan. He thought about that for a bit and then asked if he could borrow B11,000, and he would repay B1,000 from the first loan right now.

I sometimes wonder if the wrinkles on my forehead spell MUG in Thai.

Sure he is not a member of the US Congressional Budget committee. They have been doing that for 10's of years.

Hail Prayuth, Supreme Protector and Hero Of Thailand.

Good Job.

This is the reason why Prayuth was elected into the Prime Minister position.

He and his men are down to earth, and cares about the poor people.

Not like those rich Politicians.

Actually, it would seem some anti propaganda has slipped through wink.png

KAPE we used to call it in the British Army. Keep the Army in the Public Eye the aim it to get the Army and civilians helping each other, we did it by Shows at country fairs etc, here they do it different,as for sending them south I think as with most military that might be done on a rotation , but its the Thai Army so who are we to judge

Third solution: Just pay the BIB 500 baht for a police report and give her a 100,000 baht ass kicking. Ass closed... I mean case closed.

The way I read the story was that the Damrongdharma centre was approached by this woman who loaned the B100K, may be a phone call was made to a military connection, who called the debtor and said " You owe B 100K to Swasvadee Sangdumpa and if you don't pay her back by December this year, we will come round and huff and puff and blow your house down, have a nice day"

I don't realise that she can be so un-intelligent. Why December? Why not now.

If now why not before?

Let's hope she actually gets her money.

Oh right... Hold on... I think I got both of those number somewhere between my right and left front pockets.

Great, the military as debt collectors. I'm sure the collectors have all the contracts and records too. May I use them to collect from dilenquent corporate Thai clients paying late?

oh ... what a lovely story. I gave a thai girl 1.5 million baht but now she's gone, will the army get it back for me.

You most probably gave the money indirectly to the family for a better living---tractor--androids--kitchen-bathroom--but also much for abuse--alcohol-cigarettes--gambling and paying bank debts to retrieve deeds.

Always tell them you have nothing--if they stay with you then they like/love you. paying money out you never will know.

Yes, but a man has got to know his limitations. cheesy.gif

P.T. Barnum's great quote comes to mind, something about suckers, birth and minutes.

How wonderful! Perhaps all the farangs who have been fleeced of their life savings here should also ask for this assistance.

Chokdee.

The BIB would probably have done the same for her. Last time I heard, the commission was only 10%.

The Damrong dharma centres have only been reinstated since the NCPO took over. There is one in every province and are designed to accept complaints of any size from the grass roots population. It is one of the main ways for the new government to have access and interact with the population. How do you think the military are being so effective in catching up with so many low lifes?

Posted

That's it.....I'm off to the NCPO!.......I lent some money to a thai "friend" some time ago too.......

Yes....a fool and his money are easily parted....can here you all now :))

PM Prayuth's soldiers don't work for Sexpat (or equivalent) to make Thai girls unhappy.

this is so touching....!i thought laws and judges help by police is there to resolve these kind of problems

but ok......now they could also start helping all "non immigrant" or retired farang who can not get their money back from their crab girlfriend or mowan because everything as been put on their name, because we don't have a law who give us the right to have something in our name to leave propely and safely.

Re:"...when we were green and trusting...." Ah, weren't (aren't) we all!

So...so true, it can hurt!

I was taught to be helpful and trusting in our modest home long ago. Here posters say---you were irresponsible--stupid------fancy doing that . never used your brain. Amazing. some posters may have been brought up in a swindling home so they would be more aware before settling here.

Also many people believed the laws here (much the same as the west) would protect----no way.
