Southern police chief: Enough evidence in British tourists' murder case to make arrest now

Seriously, do anyone here really believe that the locals and police do not know who did this?

I can not even walk down my street without someone questioning, where I am going or where I have been. If I was so stupid to get a Mia-Noi in the same town my girlfriend would know even before, I even had a chance to get her to bed. If I buy something new, I will immediately be asked where I purchased it and how much it cost. Nothing goes hidden or unquestioned here and it for sure does not on a small island.

Thai-people are the most curious people in the world, because most of them really have nothing else to do and spend their time on. Do you really think, that they do not know who did it? Of course they know. They are just way to scared to tell anyone, because they know the police have been paid off and telling will only mean problems for themselves and their family.

I think you also can count in a few TV posters who is lurking around here 24/7 .

I still think they should DNA test Mon and the Bkk son just to make 100% sure. They are not sure if they even tested Mon ??? Why ??? He was the main one they were looking at.

He does not want to be tested and his entire family is above the law. End of story. What he is demonstrating is that he not only owns the police, but very obviously the army too.

There ARE people above the army that could easily interfere if they so desire.

Who are the island headman related to?

Apparently, according to the article the 5 families that control/exploit the island collect rents for the crown.

Not sure about Tao but large swaths of samui are owned by a certain monk that was blowing whistles a few months ago...

Looks to me these headman and Kanman are part of the control network of the real rulers in Thailand.

The invisible hand.

These guys have enough dirt on others to remain untouchable.

Sadly, I think that about sums it up tbh...

This Koh Tao family must have some very strong back up or they would have been made an example...

Suthep Tausauban was Surat Thani MP before the coup.

So these arrests - have they made them?

I understand that a couple of "detainees" refused DNA tests....so they have been released?

Seems not. And until an external police force move in from Bangkok and the incompetent and probably corrupt locals are all moved to one side and treated as suspects, in one way or the other, either for direct involvement or protecting those directly responsible, then nothing will happen. If this incident doesn't reveal the truth of the rot and corruption at the heart of thai society then nothing will. Words like obscene, incredible, flabbergasting...I don't know...whats the word for this mix of obscenity, incompetence, arrogance, stupidity....is there a word..,,maybe Thainess...I can't think of any other country where locals, people who in truth are nothing's, nobody's, can hold sufficient local influence on their island of incest that they or their family members or friends can rape and murder foreigners with impunity and just smirk and laugh at the foreigners later as they almost openly pervert the course of justice.

Say the police knew from day 1 about who did the murders why were the photos of the crime scene available so quick. This is what caused such a big story.

Because one incompetent idiot wanted his/her moment of fame!

Thai attitude to death and mutilation can be disturbing to us of higher sensibilities; whover the idiot was, he/she should be arrested! No hope!

Interesting you mention the attitude that Thais have to death and humiliation. I noticed the same pretty morbid inappropriate behaviour after those 4 kids were killed by the epileptic driver in Nongbualamphu, people of all walks of life seemed to be posting bloodied pictures of the poor dead children on Facebook..it was offensive and deplorable

This is getting culturally sensitive, but remember there is no true Thai word for death ;as in many cultures, it is passing on or RIP, going to another existance.

There is a Foundation, near MBK, that provides cofffins for paupers, my wife donates on her birthday. The photographs outside shocked me first time. Are we any better with our tabloids and even Thai Visa?

This is why the real killer of the two tourists in Koh Tao, Thailand, will probably never be found or convicted http://t.co/t78RHZuHcR

Wow, great article!! Thanks for posting. Personally everyone on here should boycott the Island.

For all Prayuths talk about anti corruption and bringing a smile back, this case is making him look more stupid than going to fortune tellers

The word for death in Thai is kwam dtai or ความตาย in fact they have more words for death than any European language, just saying. If you can't speak the language don't give out false facts

True, "kwam dtay" means death as in the meaning being dead and not passing on, not just from my poor thai knowledge, but confirmed by several thai here.

He should be thanked, because the whole world can now see what happened to poor Hannah and David and how horrific, violent and cold blooded the murderers were. And the whole world has responded, just this one thread has been viewed by over 130,000 people.

I agree, but have issues with it, but it matters not. My Thai language skills are poor and I cannot read Thai script; I live with a Thai family and know their attitude to not being alive is more akin with mine.

That is not to imply disrespect to those things no longer existant! Enough said!

I think, hope, most know the sentiments I have expressed at this horrific crime. So young and maybe very naive ! They were meant to be naive, on a learning curve, but this should never have happened.
