The funeral of Police Senior Sergeant Wichai Raksilpa, who was allegedly hit and killed by teen motorcyclists on Suwannasorn Road on 10 January.

SA KAEO — Members of a teenage motorcycle gang in Sa Kaeo province allegedly hit and killed a police officer who tried to intercept them on Saturday.

Police Senior Sergeant Wichai Raksilpa was hit on Suwannasorn Road on 10 January, National Children's Day, police say.

According to police, he was part of a police operation in Sa Kaeo to intercept more than 100 members of a "dek vans," or local motorcycle gang, who were racing on the highway at the time.

Pol.Sen.Sgt. Wichai was reportedly manning his checkpoint at around midnight when he signaled at a group of oncoming motorcyclists with his flashlight to stop.

Instead, the motorcyclists sped up and hit Pol.Sen.Sgt. Wichai, throwing him 10 metres across the road, according to his patrol partner, Pol.Sen.Sgt. Charnchai Chanprakom.

Wichai was sent to hospital, but later died of his injuries at around 1 am on 11 January. The Royal Thai Police have promoted him posthumously to the rank of Police Lieutenant Colonel.

According to police, Pol.Sen.Sgt. Wichai was about to head home for the night, but decided to stay and help other officers after he received a radio call about the dek vans race.

Two suspects, both of them 16 years old, were arrested in connection to the crime, police say.

Was it "allegedly" the first time this story was reported?

Now then, what could have been revealed about the teens "allegedly" responsible since this story was first reported?

The use of the words 'alleged' and 'suspect' have become the norm in international media, it seems, even when there is little or no doubt as to responsibility. Apparently the gunman that took hostages at a Sydney cafe not long ago was just an "alleged gunman" ("Before the Sydney siege, alleged gunman Man Haron Monis..." ... http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/world/wp/2014/12/15/before-he-took-hostages-at-a-sydney-cafe-man-haron-monis-had-been-tied-to-alleged-murder-sexual-assaults-and-offensive-letters/) and the terrorists in Paris were just "alleged gunmen" ("...the alleged gunmen first stepped into the wrong building" ... http://www.wsj.com/articles/charlie-hebdo-attack-french-police-hunt-for-gunmen-1420708623). Thai media perhaps just playing the same game...

Looks like they killed one of the only police concerned with doing their job. Stick a needle in both of them. Maybe it will send a message. Don't need trash like this wasting good oxygen.

agreeing with your sentiment, ....but who is going to stick a needle into a military general's son?

Road blocks should be exactly that i.e. something solid not a policeman walking into the middle of the road and, at night, just waving a torch. The Thai police has to examine its methods and provide its employees with the proper resources to do their job. If just one racing motorcyclist hits something solid and gets seriously injured or killed word will soon spread.

And it will be the police's fault for doing something dangerous xangry.png.pagespeed.ic.Cla6z9sEn6laxSyB

R.I.P. That is a massive posthumous jump in rank. Very nice way to recognise another policeman needlessly killed in the line of duty.

It will also help take care of his family.

No mention of wife or kids. Typically, western stories state "He was survived by.." but never here in LOS.

Finding a policeman in Thai that actually does his job is a rare thing and having him killed by, oops sorry, allegedly killed by, a connected brat is just appalling. Unfortunately I see a bout of flu coming for this young moron that will need immediate attention at the specialist in Singapore.

Yeah poor procedure if it calls for a policeman standing in the middle of road with only a torch at night to boot...

It's very unsafe how some of these checkpoints are established during the day...

That's the spirit!!

Blame the "alleged" victim............................coffee1.gif

One of their fellow officers has been killed and they STILL don't have the balls to just say "enough is enough" and dismantle these gangs bit by bit.

I agree. So what is so different about a mob of teenaged boys on bikes killing one of their own and the Red Bull pr1k? Not apples for apples is it?

The "gangs" are made up of 14 - 21 year old twits who weigh about 30 kg and couldn't find their way out of a car park.

They know where they go to race and they know who they are and what schools they come from, so why not use this horrible death towards something positive and get out there and throw these little shits in jail for a couple of months and sell their bikes at auction.

Thee is little - if any - Rule of Law - in this country; much of which is a direct result of BIB not doing their jobs. How many others have been slaughtered as a result of NO ROL?

One of the accused is a son of a military colonel.

Font expect any harsh punishment. On the top he colonel offered blood money to the victims family, so after this post the case is going to be closed ( I am just guessing ).

Yes, pathetic really. What they should be using are spikes across the road, not someone waving a torch. That would bring an end to the racing pretty quick, damage the bikes as they crashed and maybe get rid of a decent number of these hooligans (now there's a nice old-fashioned word).

A single policeman manning the check point and attempting to stop the 100 motorcycle teenagers and we have to remember some of the Thai teenagers can be as old as 25, RIP to the policeman but at the end of the day it was a rather foolhardy act to attempt and stop the 100 teenage motorcyclists as most of them are bullet proof while in a large pack.
