BANGKOK: -- Five senior police officers at Makasan police station were transferred today after an online betting service in a luxurious condominium was raided by 191 police.

The lightning transfer was ordered by Pol. Maj. Gen. Pongsephan Wannaphak, the commander of the First Division of the Bangkok Metropolitan Police Bureau after 191 police raided a rented room on the 12th floor of a luxury condominium on Phetburi road and arrested two South Koreans red-handed while keying orders from customers into their computers.

The five senior police officers are transferred to temporary posting at the operation centre of the First Division for a period of 30 days or until ordered otherwise.

It was the third police transfer within a month prompted by raids on South Korean betting gangs operated online betting websites from rented luxury room to cater service to South Korean customers in South Korea.

Most South Korean suspects said they were paid by their bosses in South Korea to open betting website and came to Thailand to operate as penalties by Thai law are less severe than in their country.

Local police will be held responsible if police from other units raid any gambling dens in their area of responsibility.

The RTP will continue to be a joke as long as they keep transferring these crooks to other divisions instead of bringing them up on charges... Just more proof that nothing has really changed...

Story doesn't say why the police were transferred.

Are we supposed to guess the reason ?

Again, another very uninformative incomplete story.

Based on similar stories, the ones transferred were either those directly in "charge" of that area and allowed the gang to operate and/or were paid off to allow the gang to operate.

Ity's about time that someone woke up to the fact that merely transferring police is just wallpapering over the cracks. The building is still falling down!!!!!!! Dismiss them from their jobs. Most of the senior ones have huge resources tucked away after years of graft. They won't miss the salary, only the "face."

OK, this might be a stupid question and a redundant one as well. But why do the police here always get "transferred" after committing crimes, things that would get them thrown in prison anywhere else?

If this General is really serious about stopping corruption maybe it's time to start prosecuting corrupt cops.

Just a crazy thought facepalm.gif

191 police? ....191 police men for 1 rented room and 2 korean guys?

Perhaps they were all eager to be in the publicity-photo afterwards ? rolleyes.gif

Just as likely the police higher ups charged the low level police tea money to be part of the 'raid'; Good on their resumes ?
