RAYONG: -- Two policemen were shot dead and a third was fatally shot at Pluak Daeng district police station in Rayong province Monday afternoon.

The incident took place at about 3 pm when Pol Snr Sgt-Maj Chinkrit Putthiprapat walked into the office of Pol Col Somchai Sunthornvanich, the superintendent, and fire one shot into his neck with his 9mm pistol, killing him on his chair. Then he turned his pistol on Pol Lt Banyat Somha who was in the office and fired two shots into his head and the back of his neck.

Pol Snr Sgt-Maj Chinkrit fired more shots into his boss’s office and the station as he rushed down from the second floor to the ground floor towards a pick-up truck in his escape bid.

The other policemen in the station then returned fire killing Chinkrit beside the truck.

An informed police source said the tragic incident stemmed from an order by Pol Col Somchai to set up a fact-finding committee to investigate Chinkrit following a complaint from a Lao woman detained at the station that she was raped by Chinkrit.

Latest report said that Pol Lt Banyat who was seriously shot died from the bullet wounds at the hospital.

Likely was going to be found out he was a rapist. Would have been much better off if he had just gone out in the middle of nowhere and suck started his gun. Now he has ruined the lives of the families of the deceased. This man is nothing but a horrible excuse for a human.

So he raped a prisoner from Laos. She complains and an investigation is started. He gets pissed because hey! She is not Thai and goes after his boss for not believing him and starting an investigation into the incident. Most likely it would have all gone away if he just waited. Paranoid of getting caught he did the only thing he could. Blame his boss and seek revenge. These are the people paid to protect us and they can't even protect themselves from each other. When will P realise the whole of RTP needs to change their staff of hmmm 'officers' if you really want to call them that, and find and train new people who really care about others and want to make society a better place instead of using their power to raped and rob and extort and kill others.

And this is the same organization that actively goes after average cotizens for "damaging their reputation"... Jesus weapt, how further can its reputation sink I wonder until reform simply can't be overlooked

I'm kind'a surprised that this cop didn't complain to the courts and have her gaoled for 8 years like the other 2 people???

That rape investigation should have been carried out by another station for many reasons,

to avoid favoritism.interferences and clouding judgments, and for the plaintiff and defended safety,

but Thai common sense and work's ethics to prevent disasters like this leaves a lot to

be desired....

Credit to the Police Colonel that he wanted to do the right thing, especially helping a non-Thai, and I think he should get great credit for this. As for the Rapist he will suffer under the hands of karma.

Impressive quick response by police to the shootings. Minimal pistol rounds shot at and incapacitating the shooter.

No telling what further injuries and deaths this maniac might have caused if he had escaped.

Another influential bail from above, 500 Baht, and never ever do it again coming, wanna bet???

hmmm he's dead? so I'll take that bet as long as you are not including the afterlife where 'bail' is not a concept adhered to

Wow....

Typically Thai....Blaming others. Or; Do your job, get shot.

Double "WOW". How absolutely appalling that two guys apparently trying to do their job and NOT cover up for a nasty A'hol* rapist colleague were tragically killed in their honest efforts.

I have this feeling that under some previous administrations the "cover-up" of alleged rape by a workmate would have been S.O.P. In many police forces even in the Western world, this would still happen. I mean, "Boys will be boys! Nudge nudge, wink wink."

Is it just my imagination or does it really seem that this sort of official attitude seems more common than it used to be. If so, then could we perhaps hope that accountability and corruption sensitivity might be filtering its way down from the top in some RTP regions? I hope so. Unfortunately it will take time for the most reform resistant divisions to see the light.

The other one that surprised me a few days ago was the Pol Lt Col. found transporting a police car full of gaur & deer meet was actually fired on the spot by his Pol Gen. commander. He is now in a very in-active non-post, not the usual posting to the Bangkok Bermuda Triangle!

Let us hope better days are ahead for the RTP. The country needs it.

Can you imagine what it is like working in a police station, not knowing which of the other criminals behind desks might turn against you at any moment. Maybe it's safer to be with the criminals behind the bars.

How can Thailand cope with such loss of face.

Quite right. It's high time that a Police Internal Investigation Unit was set up in this Country similar to to the one in the UK. Completely independent and free from any pressures that could be brought to bear. Trouble is Thailand would have great trouble in finding incorruptible staff to man it.

This has shocked his neighbors, one of whom is my girlfriend's mother.

Though I never spoke to him, he was well-liked

and even waved to me a couple of times as he passed me in the street.

Scary stuff.

Remember that this is a Police Force whose response to the Pai Police Officer that executed the Canadian back packer and tried to execute his pregnant GF, was to transfer him to another station 10km away, yes, 10 km away, as witnesses were intimidated as he was still working at the same police station after executing them.

Well the cop assigned to clean up human trafficking did a good job and is now hiding in Australia.

So he was upset at the allegations, after all she was only a Lao woman.

When we look around in this country or our home country what do we see, people from many countries going about there business they may look different and we may not agree with some of the cultural or religious beliefs they carry with them.

What I see are people.

It has become distressingly clear to me that the many Thai people do not see people from elsewhere as people only as cockroaches or pack animals to be used abused and disposed of with no empathy at all.

Racism is every where but this place takes it to another level.

Primitives..
