A Bangkok - Khlong Lan Bus which was making a Chiang Mai - Bangkok run Monday night after it rode up onto the platform and injured five waiting passengers at the Lampang Bus Station.

BANGKOK — Passengers waiting for a night bus at Lampang bus station were injured when a bus suddenly burst from the platform into the waiting area.

Five people were slightly injured and later later released from hospital after bus driver Ponthep Kaewsonthi, 49, reportedly released the wrong brake, causing his bus to lurch forward and send passengers scrambling out of the way.

Bus rams at terminal, injuring three

284-wpcf_728x409.jpg

BANGKOK: -- Three passengers were injured, one seriously, after a Chiang Mai- Bangkok bus jumped off a bus platform at Lampang bus terminal and ran into crowds of passengers last night. The bus belongs to the state-owned Transport Company.

The bus stopped over at the bus terminal in Lampang to pick up passengers on its way from Chiang Mai to Bangkok.

The bus driver Pongthep Kaeodonthi, 49, told police investigator that when he walked back to the bus to drive, it jumped off the platform instantly.

But he said he did not switch off the engine, but just put on the handbrake and shifted to neutral gear when he left the bus to sign on arrival log book.

However police suspected he might shift to wrong gear, causing the bus to go forward.

The bus also caused cracks on the terminal’s supporting pole and authorities would investigate if the terminal is still safe after it was hit.

Another quality Public Service Vehicle driver.

released the WRONG brake?

The Health & Safety team have advised the bus company to tell their drivers to put more water in their whisky.

Handbrakes are a foreign contraption.. We all know where that leads.. :D

sad and incredible at the same time. who trains these buses? maybe the buses should go to elephant camp and learn not to act up so much.

The passengers on the bus got to know what it feels like to be a Hiso, running people down and not being held responsible.

release wrong brake = slam the accelator ;)

Nothing gets past those 'dicks' does it?

The first 7 seconds in this video shows the bus driver, right?

Black pants, white shirt and he walks towards the bus like a crab...

maushipai 100%

The bus drivers are not even waiting till they are out of the station

to cause carnage.

on the surface of things, that looks pretty obvious

Another example of the total lack of Safety in Thailand.

What this time? Tiredness due to very long hours at the wheel? Having 2 Jobs? RedBull? Yabba?........Or all of them?

It's usual when driving long distances here to see at least one bus on it's side!

I wish they'd accelerate that quickly when the traffic light goes green!

must have been brain failure

"Brain" in Thailand????

Funny...There might be some truth there...

Must have been a hand brake failure.....facepalm.gif

First failure was letting the driver have the ignition key.

When bus/car/truck/taxi etc drivers etc will turn off the engine at stops you know the diesel price has hit its right price-point.

until then its just toooo cheap.

so he left the engine running whilst not at the wheel.............incredible

He threw it into "Drive". It's as simple as that.

Buses and vans in Thailand: deadly on the highways, .. not much safer when parked.

must have been brain failure

"Brain" in Thailand????

Apart from the obvious racism here, what on earth is that supposed to mean? Do you have a Thai girlfriend, is she brainless?

I have a Thai wife of 28 years, half Thai kids and many Thai relatives and friends - are you calling all them brainless? If so a rather ignorant remark.

As the Flintstones say before there trip this driver maybe to much Yabba Dabba Do ! Just wondering if they let him continue his journey if so it would have been scary for the passengers then again maybe not they are probably use to these kind of drivers

Many times, while waiting for these buses, I have wondered how easy it would be for an incoming bus to jump the curb, and sometimes, they come in pretty fast.
