webfact Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 Thailand duplicates world's largest stupa in Chiang MaiCHIANG MAI, 11 May 2016 (NNT)-Thai Buddhists no longer have to travel all the way to Nepal to see one of the world’s largest stupas ‘Boudhanath’. The landmark stupa has now been duplicated in Chiang Mai Province for Buddhists to visit and pay their respects. The duplicated Boudhanath is also known among locals as ‘Maha Chedi Boudhanath Jamlong’. The Thai word ‘Jamlong’ means to duplicate. The stupa is located in Chom Thong district. It is the same in size, with a pair of wisdom eyes painted on each side of the structure. The eyes are also known to Nepalese as Hermika which represent the eyes of the Lord Buddha.Twenty ancient Buddha statues as well as the preserved body of the late abbot of Wat Pa Kasem Suk temple, Luang Pu Chanta Anakulo, are located inside the stupa. The abbot, whose body did not decompose, passed away in a sitting position six years ago.-- NNT 2016-05-11
BigBadGeordie Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 Concerned, could this damage the relationships between the two countries, Nepal and Thailand. Perhaps not, maybe that only happens with miniature copies.
Fookhaht Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 "...whose body did not decompose...? Can someone enlighten me?
canuckamuck Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 The sold shirts for the fund raising. They say "I'm with stupa".
Langsuan Man Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 Is this in line of sight with the proposed world's highest flag pole ? http://news.thaivisa.com/thailand/thai-flag-to-fly-the-highest-atop-record-shattering-pole/127889/
Zendo Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 Funny funny funny !! Boredom is not happening here, everyday a new joke is coming ! What's next ? They will be building the tour Effeil copy so people don't need to go that far to enjoy sipping a nice wine on a terrasse (without terrorist attack ) ?
Chicog Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 (edited) "...whose body did not decompose...? Can someone enlighten me? I think it's this weird thing where they purge their body of anything that causes decomposition, essentially starving themselves to death. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-31125338 Edited May 11, 2016 by Chicog
Rama Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 Not the world's largest. Not even close. Borobudur in Indonesia is much larger as is Sarnath in India. Not sure of what is the largest, but its not this. I've seen the original in Nepal. Once again, This is Thailand.

There's the new slogan: Thailand - the hub of Buddhist Stupor. The stupification of Buddhist teachings.
canuckamuck Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 Someone said Thailand couldn't get more stupa, but they were wrong.
