Thai Helmets that have DOT and ECE Certification.

Featured Replies

Are there any others besides REAL?

Or are they the only local helmet company that is DOT and ECE certified?

Thanks.

Yes, there are other DOT and ECE certified helmet producers in Thailand, Bilmola and Index. As I know Index 911 is ECE certified, but from my point of view this helmet is not as good as top models of REAL and Bilmola.

Top model of Bilmola is Eclipse 2016 http://bilmola.com/products/full_face/14

As I know this helmet is made from ABS\PC material and does not have air pump and double lenses. Very little technologies for top model.

REAL is by far the most technologically advanced Thai brand. It has top models with air pump, double lenses and made from fiberglass or carbon-kevlar.

Karbon-Kevlar helmet with double lenses and air pump for 6200 baht is very good price.

Fiberglass model with double lenses and air pump for 3200 baht.

I would also look for LS2 helmet, they sell them in many internet shops. Price is really good they are DOT, ECE and SHARP certified.

For example LS2 ff396 you can buy in internet shops for about 130 USD. It is made from fiberglass and has 4 stars in sharp rating.

Shark is way more expensive. If you are ok to pay 5000 for basic model and 15 000  for advanced than Shark is  for you. Shark is a French brand , they have factory in Thailand, but still very expensive.

Just an observation. Pay whatever you believe the helmets contents are worth.

My Shark cost way over 10k baht. As per Dilligad's post, I value my head very much.

To get kitted up for big bike riding one can expect to pay min 30-50k baht and should be done before the bike is purchased.

I noticed many do it the other way around and first go and buy a bike and then the gear.

Some even rather buy add-on's for the bike and don't care much about the gear and use "gear" suited for going to the beach, ha-ha.

Excellent information. Thank you very much.

agreed thanks..

The problem with Thai brands helmets is that none of them is SHARP certified and I trust SHARP rating more than DOT and ECE 22.05. The advantage of SHARP certification is that they show testing results online. https://sharp.dft.gov.uk/ You can see helmet stars rating, and impact zones safety. DOT and ECE are closed testing, no results are available only pass or fail. Even if helmet has DOT or ECE certification there is still a big difference in protection between 1 star and five and we do not know how many stars can Thai brand get in SHARP rating.

Unfortunately this Real helmet have DD ring lock and no quick release....

Only quick release is acceptable for me.

The Double D  strap lock is more secure than the plastic quick release ones.  If you watch Formula 1 you will notice that all the helmets have DD strap locks.

Agreed that Sharp certification is best but it is only done for helmets that will be sold in the UK.  As far as I know the only way to get a Sharp certified helmet in Thailand is to buy one imported from the UK.

The quick release is secure enough, I dont drive Formula 1 in 300 km/h.....

The double D is fine with me, there is a small strap I pull and the main strap is loose.

I don't know about U.S or European standards but no Thai helmet comply with the AS/NZS1698:2006 because they don't have the sticker on them, personally I take my Bell Rogue with me to Thailand as it provides great protection, a face shield and is comfortable, I have a big head and Thai helmets just don't fit.
