Raining all night and day....I love it!

Not only can you save money on air con but you can't go out so save money generally also. I love having the slide doors open and listening to the rain on the trees and sporadic thunder, only in Thailand this is a nice feeling. It's shit in England!

HA..To each their own my aircon costs about 50 b a day in hot season.  So, I would rather have it on and go out.

These are the worst storms I have experienced here hopefully it will help with the water shortage..

Songkran marks the beginning of the traditional Thai New Year, not the rainy season. When the seasonal weather was stable up to about 20 years ago, April and early May used to feature very brief thundershowers, typically in the hot mid-afternoon period. Otherwise it was the hottest time of year with blue skies.

What has been the recognized rainy (or southwest monsoon) season prevailed over most of Thailand from mid-May to mid-October, except the south where the season is extended. In recent years the onset of the monsoon has been delayed several times and the monsoons themselves have been mostly weaker. although often extending into November.

The OP is about Pattaya in early May, not Panama. I have seen serious tropical rainfall all over the world, thanks.

Yep. Mango showers in April and May only. The start of Buddhist lent (9 July this year) marks the official start of the rainy season. But  usually the rainy season starts more towards mid June. Not complaining though.

That's still 1500 a month on top of the rest of the electric so 2k plus a month. Imagine more rain and no air con and 2k is a whole weeks Tesco shopping!

I do like the sun and beach, but rain and darkness is more my thing.

So far I remeber, I never experienced that much rain in May. But I like it. It's not hot and nice for a walk.

If you go for a walk today better take an umbrella. Looks like rain all day.

Had the heaviest downpour so far this morning.

HA.  I did take a walk got my shoes wet, my clothes wet, cars kicking up water, the wind blew my cheap umbrella into shreds, no girls at the coconut bar, etc.  Not a good day maybe good to catch up on some TV.

I do love Seattle! Went up the saucer tower. Monorail and the live music quarter and went to see Bruce Lee's burial place. It's a great city, didn't rain when I was there.

I like England in the autumn when it gets dark early and it's generally gloomy. But in the summer when it rains it's crap!

The accuweather Pattaya forecast for the next 5 days is rain rain rain.

Ok,  thanks. For some of us that like girls the weather has put a damper on things so it is totally related.  Sorry if you don't get it.

Have a good night.

I think it's raining a lot due to the rainy season starting as it usually does in May, and I think that God observed the massive waste of water during a very lengthy Songkran and has stepped in maybe a week or so early. Better than a drought though isn't it?

A couple of days ago we noticed that the water in one corner of the garden was not soaking away. My wife and her sister got the submersible and pumped what they could over the wall into the road drain.

Today my sister in law brought in a JCB and dug some trenches between the bananas, over one metre down and he was still scooping out mud, no wonder it wasn't soaking away.

My sister in law is 60 and has lived on this land all her life and she has not known the water not soak away before. This is reality and nothing to do with statistics.

I remember 2011 , it was raining a lot on April/May .

In what month did the raining die down in 2011?

Yes, the start of the monsoon season. I love it, but I do feel sorry if your house floods due to the governments lack of infrastructure

That must have been the end of May, June and July were not too bad , only the normal sporadic showers.

Maybe potentially June/July this year won't be too bad either :)

Rain has stopped and it's back to being stonking hot. Don't want to go out either way.

Came back from W S last night and my shirt was soaked with sweat. It's really humid out there.
