First visit to Pattaya (Young couple), recommendations

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm thinking of spending a long weekend at Pattaya.

Where is the best place to stay? Pattaya beach or Jomtien?

Also looking for budget accommodation with sea view.

Please local experts give me some advice.

I just want to chill out and enjoy the weekend.

We choose Pattaya because it's easy, cheap and fast to get there from Bangkok.

It's only a weekend and i don't want to spend so much time for sitting in the bus etc...

From my experience in other seaside towns it's better to stay central because transport cost soon add up to what you would have saved for accommodation.

I found this place on internet, The Bedrooms hostel, private room with shared bathroom, 688 THB.

Any other recommendations?

I don't recommend sharing a bathroom with a bunch of strangers in a tropical country.

A basic but decent hotel is Angel Park Residence in Pattaya. 800 Baht per night. 2 minutes from a Baht bus route to the beach and Walking Street. Plenty of restsurants nearby for many tastes and budgets. No sea view but you will struggle to find somewhere with a sea view for less than 1000 Baht.

You are a couple, so your not looking for sex! Your on a budget, so I would go to Bang Saen Beach. You will enjoy

Thai Culture with Thai's and not a bunch sex perverts. Bang Saen is 30 kilometers north of Pattaya. You can find a nice bungalow across from the beach for 400-800 baht per night. Enjoy!

Yes, I would say that Pattaya is unsuitable for a couple who want to enjoy the beach and relax. Jomtien/Pratumnak might be suitable at a pinch. Transport in Pratumnak is a big problem but near the beach in Jomtien it is OK.

Bang Saen or even Bang Saray should be more suitable, though Bang Saen gets very busy at weekends.

Okay, thank you for the replies.
However, we have been a couple of times already to Bang Saen as daytrip and I'm not sure I want to go there the n-th time again.
Bang Saray I will check out.
I also considered Pattaya to check out some non-thai restaurants.
I'm living here since three years and sometimes another food than Thai is welcome

Just for a weekend I would not go to Jomtien it is a total bore.  Most people I know who live there spend their days and evenings in Pattaya.  So, you are right it is better to stay central you don´t want to waste your time. Check out a place called The Central Avenue Residence.  Central, not a long walk to the beach, across from the mall,  many restaurant options, and walk to many places.

You will get many fine recommendations from people well familiar with the area here..

My humble recommendation would be to check if your hotel is "guest friendly" or not .. (guest friendly is a polite terminology that accepts bringing in "guests" in the room against payment for either an hour, a night or more!!)....As a couple, not into the sex bar scene, obviously you would like a hotel that is not "guest friendly".....enjoy your stay and give some reports on the state of the beaches!!

A sea view in Pattaya for
700 baht won't happen unless it's a glimpse from the bathroom window or something.
Go to booking. Com website and look for something close to beach Rd. You can sit on the beach chairs during the day

Or better still go and stay at koh larn about a 30 minute ferry from bahli high pier

PRS hotel and spar. 3rd road near baht busses. If you're very tall, from the top floor antenna, you can see the top of the tourist busses on beach road.

B700 per night, swimming pool, sauna, steam , gym, lots of cheap Thai food and massage places. And, the massage place across the road is unique in that it has a sign in English on the door "No Sex". And it's true. [emoji41]

North Pattaya is pretty good its away from the craziness for the most part and there are cheap resort hotels like the Loma where you can get rooms for 800 baht per night.

To visit Pattaya is a must. Apex hotel second rd 650 baht.

If you can afford it and after some talking with your lady to confirm your BOTH  in to it,  I would recommend the Devils Den.  GREAT couple fun IF  your BOTH in to it...

Try Wongamat beach , Naklua area. Lots of guest houses and cheap hotels around starting from 500 baht .  Much cleaner and not so crowded as Pattaya beach.

The OP specifically asked for a quiet weekend break on a nice beach. Last time I checked Pattaya offered neither quiet nor a nice beach. Not easy to find anything in his budget with a sea view there either.

As a Jomtien resident I know that most people who live here do NOT spend their days and nights in Pattaya. For those who do the Bahtbus costs 10B and takes about 10 minutes. I manage quite nicely with just going there two or three times a week, and only for long enough to eat, after which I come straight back to Jomtien.

You cant find non-Thai food in Bangkok? Seriously? I often go there just to eat as the choice and quality is so much better than here.

After you leave the beach, Jomtien can be boring, so probably stay central Pattaya. Beach Rd Soi 11 to soi 13 many, many cheap hotels, but less than 1000 tbh or so, you won't get a room right on Beach Rd, so no sea view.

Pattaya is excellent for young couple, very easy to find someone to join you for fun, guy or girl. And just to mix it up, you can easily score an Arab guy, or Russians, Pattaya is very diverse culturally!

This is a "chill-out beach weekend"?

I really do live a sheltered life.

It's just that they may get bored after chilling on the beach, and I'm throwing some ideas. I see young Russian couples often wondering aimlessly after dark, not knowing what to do, so if they hooked up and made friends with other couples,  their weekend would be even more chill.

800 a night, I prefer Sutus Court at 650 and has a swimming pool.

I suggest you stay on Soi 6 Second Rd in Nth Pattaya, you can also get good hotels on this Soi, if your girlfriend peeees you off you can just go downstairs and find another one.

I went back and read the OP again to double check, I really don't think this poster is asking about swinging.

Here is an American/Thai owned guesthouse across the street from 6km long Jomtian Beach. The baht bus route to downtown Pattaya is outside the door. As stated above 10฿  each way. They have a great western menu resturant with the best smoked bbq ribs in asia. The night market is a couple minutes walk. Sea view rooms 900฿.includes own bathroom.

Go somewhere else... Kho Tao, or Samui where you can go beach combing and find the most unexpected things.

But I'm joking of course.

Forget the cat fights at 3am, pickpockets, snatch thieves etc etc.

Enjoy!

Agree with the above poster. Anywhere in Thailand is better than Pattaya.

Rayong / Klaeng / Koh Samet not much further. Hua Hin? Never even been but I know it's nicer than filthy Pattaya. Or take a cheap flight to Krabi? Samui? You name it.

A cheap way to get back and forth from Bangkok to Jomtien is with the airport bus. If you are by a Skytrain or the MRT connect to the AirportLink to Swampy. Go to Level 1, Gate 8 and purchase a ฿120 ticket to Jomtien. They depart at the top of every hour and take 2 hours. When you arrive at Jomtien and plan on staying at RichManPoorMan go to the roadway running along side the terminal and flag down a 10฿ Baht bus. It turns down to the beach after a couple blocks and stay on until you reach Soi 9. That will usually take about 10 minutes. The guesthouse is on the corner and you can't miss the sign. Reverse for going back which takes about 1h40mins.

You should perhaps consider going upmarket and stay at say the Dusit. On the sea and a good 5 star hotel I often use for a break.
