CityNews – The government has announced today that they are issuing a new policy to help with the falling longan prices – eat more longans!

The Deputy Minister from the Ministry of Commerce announced the policy in response to falling longan prices, dropping to around 10 to 12 baht per kilo.

The highest price for premium grade longans (AA) is usually around 38 baht a kilo but this has dropped to just 20 to 24 baht a kilo, and for the lowest grade (C) the price has dropped from 20 baht a kilo to just 10 baht.

As so many people here have Diabetics, are they good or bad ?  100's of websites most giving different answers and advise...

Yes I am Diabetic +  controlled Kidney Disease..

eg: = good sugars  but max 6 a day............ to Logan being one of the very high bad sugars  and to avoid eating...   "patients with Diabetic Kidney Disease must be strictly controlled.... Logan are in high sugar content. This kind of fruit is the taboo to eat."

Myself had 8 after evening meal yesterday  my fasting BS this morning was 230  !!  normally is under 130,, was this the reason ?  and should government be setting new policy if it is bad advice  ??

Just in the Village there are over 1/3 of us with Diabetes that I know of, I am the only non Thai, ages between 11 and 92 !!  so not just a small %

Longan or Lamyai? I recall longan as a kind of citrus tasting fruit, lamyai (from Lamphun province) being phenomenally sweet.

Tail end of Lamyai harvest and yea, farmers are getting beat up hard. Like all harvests I guess.

Eat too many and you end up with terrible mouth ulcers. So I think I will pass.

Don't forget lemons, the price of those has really tanked too,

Last count I had about 100 lemons in the fridge. Maybe I can freeze the juice ?

I'll get around to it after I have made the pineapple jam :sleepy:
