LAMPANG: -- Daily News reported on dash cam footage posted to Facebook that showed a student sitting on the back step of a minivan on the way home from school in Lampang.

The news media said that such a situation was very hard to find and posed the question "Thailand? Only?" using the English language in their headline.

Daily News said that the footage was taken in Muang Pan district on the way to Lampang and was posted today, Thursday.

Netizens were soon commenting in droves saying that it was very dangerous and wondering how it happened.

Some felt that it was probably the kid up to mischief but the driver would have surely known that his back door was not properly sealed.

Some said the van was probably overloaded.

To make matters worse Daily News reported that the student was having to hold onto the back door to avoid it flying up as the van went alone.

People online demanded the authorities act.

Show us the van number - we all have the right to know who the loonies are so that we can avoid them

What rights do you have in Thailand exactly, as a guest?

The right?

There are plenty of loonies ( and not just the ones in vans)  in the countries from which we all come. Do you get regular updates on their identities?

You really need to watch The Science of Stupid on National Geographic to see western loonies in action. Oddly they don't provide names or van numbers for the cretins in the videos.

This is a more common sight.  I guess the kid in the van is unaware that carbon monoxide could be sucked into the van and kill them all - known as the silent killer!

Welcome to Chiang Mai, can be seen multiple times daily and the so called  'Police'  just stand and watch.

One minute video and the van never wandered over the yellow line... incredible!!!

Not pranked,

I seen this in Northern Thailand last Winter. Near Udon Thani.

I have also seen those overloaded pckups in many places in  Thaland, Sadly.

Room for one more on top.    A common shout from the bus conductors in England about 60 years ago.
