Police in Chiang Mai are hunting for a thief who held up a gold shop at the Thanin market yesterday.

Saleswoman at the O-eh shop Benjaporn Janthawong, 24, said that a middle eastern looking man came into the store speaking a language she didn't know.

He went for his pocket appearing to be about to produce a weapon.

He then tried to get in the back of the shop that was locked. But managed to put his hand through some bars to retrieve a tray of gold rings.

He was able to steal 14 one quarter baht weight rings and flee.

He was wearing a light blue t-shirt and had tattoos on his right arm.

Police said that he had come to the area on a rented motorcycle. A check was made on exit points at the train station and bus stations but police said he was likely still in the city, reported Thai Rath.

Throw your life away for the sake of a bit of money, hard to understand.

He probably didn't do it in his home country, so he could keep his hands attached to his wrists !

I love the pixelation on the T-shirt.

No covered advertising in Thailand

So quality tourists have migrated from Pattaya & Phuket to Chiangmai now.

Immigration Eye / Face recognition and finger prints left at the scene will get him if not already. Stupid criminals deserve what they get. Or maybe he has the Yingluck escape route somehow and is already gone? STUPID.

found a wallet with 1m baht and gave it back

Key to successful thievery: appear to be middle-eastern, unless you are, and speak in an incomprehensible tongue.
