Royal rainmaking plans meet current demands in northern region

CHIANG MAI, 30 August 2917 (NNT) – Royal rainmaking plans have been adjusted to aid farmland and add more water into dams in the northern region in accordance with the current demands.

Royal Rainmaking Operation Unit Director Nuenghatai Tantiplunthong said the unit had made adjustments to its rainmaking plans in keeping with the area-based water demands and to add more water into the northern dams.

The rainmaking plans, which will be effective from 1 September 2017, will retain the operation base in Chiang Mai and continue to serve Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Mae Hong Son, Lampoon, Lamphang, Payao, and the areas which receive water from Bhumibol, Sirikit, Mae Ngat Somboon Chon, Mae Kuang Udom Thara, Kiew Lom and Kiew Kor Mha dams, as well as from other water reservoirs.

Operations will be carried out by four rainmaking aircraft, while the operation base in Tak will keep provide additional water in its responsible areas.

The Northern Region Royal Rainmaking Operation Unit is closely monitoring the situation and will perform rainmaking operations as requested if the weather provides. The rainmaking operations will be carried out with specific measures to avoid areas currently affected by storms and flooding. The general public can request for the rainmaking service by calling 053-275051 ext 12.

Given the amount of rain that is falling on C M at the moment, they need, IMO, to store more of it in the hills, so can avoid having to use planes in the dry. It's not as though they don't have plenty of uninhabited land suitable for reservoirs in the north.

It's been a pretty wet year so far . Is rainmaking now really necessary ?

Overhead it sounds like a dry-run out of hand.
Been raining cats and dogs in CM this week.

Yep, and yesterday I stepped in a poodle.

Rainmaking service for the general public on request? I'll keep the number for next time the lawn is looking a bit parched.
