Been Done Before?

I just gained access to Bedlam.

I don't understand any of the comments.

I am 741.

I am originally from Greek lines, but the blood is now mellowed thanks to family matings with Irish, Swedish, Norwegian, and German beer drinkers.

High school evictee, runaway, Kresge's lunch counter server, book reader, cocktail waitress. Then to uni for East Asian studies. (I know all the Greek stuff and am still on the hunt for Perseus's reincarnate.)

Ran away to China and Japan. Paid penance for my aunty Medusa's misdeeds by teaching a year at an all-girl catholic high school in Nagasaki. Got into my desired field of scribbling words for pay right after that gig. Newspapers, mags, PR, investment research...mostly in Asia.

Gave it up to go paint, my minor at uni. Sold the most paintings in Vientiane.

Now writing financial reports (good pay but boring) and other guff.

Got my first dog in Thailand (she came with the bungalow) in 1995 and, unfortunately, have outlived several stray pals since then. First real heartbreaks of my life laying my little friends to rest.

Currently cross country skiing to find online gigs in the States and that place north of the 49th.

I watch a free movie channel on Inet.

Get lots of free books from the public library. Now reading Marley and Me, Obama's Audacity of Hope, Zola's Nana, and Lillian Jackson's The Cat Who Had 60 Whiskers. I lose interest pretty fast, so I gotta switch. I always read the last page first to ensure the author is not going to rip off a few hours of my time for some nonsense ending.

Just relearned the art of donning multilayered clothing and idiot mitts.

Must return to LOS because my big fridge, Melita coffee maker and machete are there. And another stray or two waiting to adopt me.

I will turn my current studies to learning Bedlamese.

Thank you.

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger.

Bedlam has degenerated somewhat since inception a couple years back but I'm sure you are going to raise the level of discourse! :o

Oh, I was just asked for tea money and now I really don't know what's going on. Is there something going on?

What's Happenin' ?

Yes, but never worked there. We used Slingsby from Kunnunnurra on Ord, I then graduated from horse to Heli myself, more fun and home at night where not so dry lol.

Our pilot was a bloke by the name of Macca (believe it or not), we used to spend a month or two out at camp before returning to the homestead, big pissup then let me tell you. We used to ride bicycles the 40k trip into town just to buy a beer for someone better looking than cookie (cookie was married to one of the ringers mind you). On our horse by 4am, still on it at 7/8pm, it is a hard life.

Funny fact, the owner/manager of Mulla Bulla was a guy by the name of Dick North.

Fond memories of many cookies, most of them male but...except one pommy cutie...

40k's on a bike in that temperature...crikey and I thought driving 300k's to the flicks was sad.

Back to the Topic at hand ;)

Me, hope this will not bore you to death as TLW © did and does to this day. :D

57 years of age, that was last year BTW, male and I mind my own business.

One and only TRUE European amongst you, 3 counties in one body.

Polish parents, Polish Refugee, born in a West Germany Refugee Camp after the II World War, had a lucky break and arrived in “The UK”. Got an education of sorts (bless them all, my teachers, all of them) as I used to STTTTTTAAAAMMMEER quite a lot in those days.

In 1972 applied and got my Neutralisation (opps) Nationalisation papers and left “The UK” in 1979. Yeeepppy, voted for Maggie before I left (best thing that I ever did). (both voted and left “The UK”)

Worked in the Middle East, Saudi, Q8, Bahrain and Oman till 1990 September (handed in "my notice" in May of that year and stayed to finish my contract).

Came to Thailand first in December 1984 on holiday and then in 1985 twice. The second time to get married and overstayed a couple of days (in those they, they only gave us 15 days and your out).

Still married to my lovely dear wife. During that time looked after her Son and Daughter, now all grown up.

Brought my first computer in 1982 “A Pet 32 k” as my hand writing, as it is today totally useless, and it worked a treat.

Worked in Hospitals most of my life, both in the UK and Middle East. Got a chance of a job here in Thailand and never looked back.

Live in Kan, work in Bangers.

Met K.O. and told him about you all on “ThaiVisaDotCom”, so there, :D blame me for that little error. :D

Hobbies: Need I tell you my 4 ?

1. :bah:

2. large.jpg:o

The third one is Traveling around this great country called Thailand.

Yours truly, :o

I'm Australian, 58 yo, and have been retired for 5 years. Was married once and had two long term defacto (common law) relationships. All lasted approx 10 years. (10 year itch?) Currently working on my first Thai relationship (NBG).

Worked in dozens of jobs early on including roadwork, fruit picking, factory, office work and for the Company in Tom Price (Iron ore town). Lived in S. Africa for nearly a year at 21. Joined the pubic service in the Education Dept (grants), then to Aboriginal Affairs (much bigger grants) and then 20 years in Immigration where I was mainly in the export side of the business - compliance, investigations and airport. (Sorry guys! Although I did spend my last year releasing refugees from detention centres)

I visit Phuket 2/3 times a year and hope to move there when I can clear a few obligations at home.

I like dancing, long romantic walks on the beach, beer and eating dead animals.

(Ok, the first two were bullshit!)

Nice one Old Croc, good to get to know you a bit better.

Aha....now I see the link you mentioned before....more of a link now as I am training in another detention area

This may have been done before, but I thought it would be interesting for the Bedlam faithful. I saw in another thread that LBD was from Scotland, and that got me thinking. Could we have a thread detailing something like: where we are from, where we live, married or single, what we do for a living and anything else that we might think interesting?

Me

I'm from Dublin, Ireland.

I live in Liverpool UK.

I'm married for 17 years.

I'm a self-employed training consultant.

Mods, could this become a pinned thread?

Go on, tell us something about yourself!

I am 23 years old (yeah, I know, I'm probably one of the younger members here)

I am from PA, USA.

I currently live in Okinawa, Japan on a military tour.

I have been married for 2 years and a few months, have one son and a girl on the way.

I am a United States Marine (who does NOT support our current war!)

My wife is from Phanomdongrak, Surin, Thailand. She and our son have been with me in Okinawa for almost 2 years now.

23? Lord Almighty and jumping Jehoshephat and Aunty Medusa! You're old enough to be my great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandson. And a marine! In my HK days, 1993-95, I saw the USS Enterprise (I think) sail into harbour with all hands on deck in their whites. Wow! Now there was a sight to behold.

So, now that you are in Bedlam, you know you are vulnerable to one-on-one combat, especially since you told everyone you are a US marine. I cannot help you and may attack you, myself.

Nevertheless, welcome.

Best wishes to your wife, a hug for your son, and keep us posted on when the little lady arrives.

Best,

Jet

I've probably been in your court with clients Graham, and have had reason to visit virtually every holding facility in WA at various times.

Good luck with your new career path mate. :o

I like to think I am a little mature for my age, having been in the military for almost 6 years now. :o

I have witnessed the perils of bedlam before and I am pretty sure I can handle myself :D

I hope my age doesnt through people off and give my posts less credibility.

Not at all, DD. We can work throw this and through punches at the meanies. It's a pity you can no longer edit your original post and delete your age, but, there you go. Get ready for bedpan incoming, honeybunny.

Celebrate good times, come on! :o

What the hey.

I'm Kerry from Canada (originally).

45ish, never married, no kids ( :D )

Left school at 16 to work for a living. Became a First Aid Attendant for a couple of years, then decided to take a pay cut by joining the Army. 22 years later I decided to retire from that to take a slightly higher paying job working for a company supporting the military (in Afghanistan). Almost 3 years later and I'm still breathing dust and dirt and ducking the occasional rocket. :D

Took my first trip to LOS in '93, while on a Peace-Keeping mission in Croatia. Been coming back ever since. In '04 I made the decision to live in LOS (more or less, work and visas permitting). Haven't quite settled on where to park my sandals yet. Still a lot of the country left to see. Until then I'll continue living in Pattaya and spending my free time supporting various bar owners and various poor villages in Isaan :o

What a humanitarian!

Nice work, kerry.

And, DSK, Rick James? Dream on honey bonnet.

Interesting little corner you guys & gals have here...

As for myself, I come from behind ze Iron Curtain (though being 22 I got to experience the leftovers more than the real deal), namely from Romania...my parents' work meant that I lived in New York for a few years (God, I love it! I don't know about living in other parts of the U.S., but NYC is probably my favorite place in the world), after which I stayed some more in Romania, after which I started experiencing Thailand. Initially (1994) it was for yearly holidays, but for the past 4ish years I've been living here full time while getting my goddamn degree...I love working in IT/telecom., but I absolutely LOATHE studying in this field.

I love to travel and have been to various parts of Europe, Asia, OZ & NZ...I've had a variety of jobs over the years - visa office intern, writer/editor, web designer, tech support staff, English teacher and am now the ###### (is there a reason I-T m-a-n-a-g-e-r is considered a 4-letter word in here? :D ) for a dotcom.

I also found someone to love in Thailand, but she happens to be Russian :o Been together for over 4 years now...though on/off at times because of the trials & tribulations of dealing with such a strong-willed person.

I don't eat Thai food (Foodbyphone makes a bundle off me :D ), I'm not a fan of the Thai climate, have very few Thai friends and haven't met particularly interesting Thai women...but I love the way of life in Thailand and generally consider it to be the most livable place in Asia. :D
