CityNews – The hit and run incident last week that shocked locals has yet to come to a conclusion after the female driver refused to meet with the victims at the police station.

After a hit and run incident was reported, Police opened an investigation that resulted in the car driver to turn herself in several days after the collision happened.

'the female driver who has still not been formally identified by police, arrived at 9.30am to give her statement accompanied by a representative and leave before the victim and his family arrived."

This is standard practice with the accidents I've been involved with.  Not that I've had an accident, but in assisting people who were injured in an accident.  The police want the victim and driver to "get together" to try to work out compensation so as to avoid the police having to bring criminal charges.  It almost seems as if the police don't want to "do their job" and file criminal charges, even when the driver isn't cooperating, even when there is CCTV footage, etc.  Instead, they hold out hope that somehow the victim is going to cave and just go away, especially if the victim isn't Thai.

"Police have yet to press any charges against the woman, claiming a statement from the victim must first be made and that the two parties must meet together."

So to avoid justice paying any money, all the defendant has to do is refuse to meet with the victims.

?? That tends to suggest that, if the victim dies (and so can't meet with the defendant), no compensation will be paid and no criminal charges will be filed?  Case closed?

" to turn herself in several days after the collision happened. "

is it really too difficult to take a couple of police off a road block

and go and bring her into the station.

Yup, this can happen.

That's why I prefer to move around with public transport or GRAB/UBER !!

This does help to improve your safety, but you can just be innocently walking down the footpath or trying to cross the street on foot and be the victim of a hit-and-run.

I cannot understand this ridiculous way of thinking. Arrest her, throw her in jail, charge her and keep her there until restitution is made.

In the real world the driver would be arrested, and charged with leaving the scene of an accident for starters. Then there's the question of did she leave to avoid being tested for alcohol and other drugs; then she could also be facing more serious charges depending on the injuries and the progress or demise of the victim in the coma.

But here, things work differently!
