A man who robbed and allegedly attempted to rape a Chinese tourist was apprehended at his house while he was having his head shaved before entering the monkhood.

Mae Rim cops in Chiang Mai announce the arrest of 26 year old Wuthisak yesterday and took him on a reenactment to the entrance to the Huay Tung Tao reservoir where he had attacked and robbed a Chinese tourist on Friday night.

The 23 year old tourist had been walking around Muang district of the northern Thai city when she noticed Wuthisak who was wearing a t-shirt with the name of the hotel that she was staying at.

She asked for a lift with Wuthisak. But instead of taking her to the hotel he took her to the scene of the crime where he allegedly tried to rape her. She screamed for help making him stop and then he decided just to steal her bag that contained a little over 1,000 baht, an iPhone 8, passport and credit card.

Mae Rim police worked with Muang district cops and the tourist police in following the trail of the suspect who was arrested at his house in Saraphi district.

He was having his head shaved at the time as he was about to ordain after the death of a relative, a Thai tradition.

Wuthisak told investigators that he thought the Chinese woman fancied him. When she started screaming he decided to just rob her instead, reported Sanook on Wednesday.

He has so far just been charged with robbery, a crime he has admitted.

I would have thought a female Chinese tourist would know better than to go somewhere alone with a man.

I'm surprised.

Amazing Thailand, attempted rape is rape, hence 15 years imprisonment in France, 14 in Australia...

He will get away with a 1000 Bahts fine.

In France you angry 15 for attempted rape?

That would be more then as for attempted murder?

Why no attempted rape charge?

That's not a confession... He told investigators he thought she fancied him, not that he tried to rape her !!!

He confessed to robbing her only..

She must've started screaming when she realised he thought she fancied her.

But he didn't confess to it (as you tried to claim), so no evidence for any attempted rape charge...

He decided to rob her instead of what, then?

Why?

If a ladyboy pulls up in a car next to me and says, 'hello big boy, get in'

I say 'no, thanks' and walk away, even if I'd quite like a lift, I consider this common sense.

Instead of having consensual sex with her?

I would take a woman screaming as meaning 'no', despite the obvious language difficulties.

(what is 'no' in Chinese?)

She wanted to go to the hotel, but he took her to a secluded spot for consensual sex. Yeah right.

She doesn't speak Thai, he doesn't speak Chinese.

There is bound to be confusion on who wants what from whom, or do you think all the world speaks English?

In Thailand many men will assume a woman going somewhere alone with a (unrelated) man is consent to sex.

A woman screaming, is something almost anyone can understand, and bridges most cultural and language barriers.

Oh I see now, it was all a big misunderstanding.

Most countries have a presumption of innocence, until tried and convicted by a court.

He said, she said, is rarely considered evidence, even in the most cucked of western countries.

Since when is a confession a prerequisite to file charges?

Worse, he'll go ahead and become a Monk, deal drugs and run porn and everything else those types do when they 'hide out' in the Monkhood.

I can only tell you UK law.

Police arrest, Crown Prosecution service decides if there is enough evidence to proceed and file charges.

Hard to prove rape when two adults are alone together without an admission of guilt from one party, proving attempted rape, I wouldn't have a clue how to begin.

How things usually work.

Woman claims rape, he claims she consented.

Woman claims attempted rape, he claims I stopped when she said no.

No additional evidence = no case to answer.

I would think it was better not to go somewhere alone with someone in the first place, if you didn't want to have sex with them. Less chance of problems later.

Makes perfect common Thai sense to me.

He knew he was going into the monkhood for a stretch (darned that dead relative). So before the older monks got to him, he decided he'd go out for a quick rape and robbery, just to reassure himself of his masculinity...

I see a definite double standard by RTP when you compare this against the recent case of the Cameroon guy, or the French guy.

And the Koh Tao guy, but the Thais usually are careful when foreign governments are involved.

When I say careful, I mean they arrest and release (usually on trivial bail), then delay the court case until the accuser returns home before quietly dropping charges.

This guy will be fined 2,000bht then released (no matter what he actually did), stealing 1,000bht (he confessed) from a foreigner isn't seen as a big deal here.

There was no confession of rape !! You just made that up...

There needs to be some evidence of a crime committed, to file charges. Her word against his, doesn't count as evidence..

He has admitted to robbery, so I'm sure he will get charged for that..

We all know he was probably intending to rape her, however he didn't and hasn't admitted to even thinking about it ?

Takes her to where she doesn't want to go, tries to have sex with her, admits he decides to rob her instead when she starts screaming. She files complaint with the police. Still gets benefit of doubt, and escapes attempted rape charges.

Correct... Now you're getting the hang of it, even with your insinuating italic letters ?
