The Livestock Development Department has impounded 8,540 pigs from four pig farms in Ratchaburi province after initial strip tests at the farms show positive results of the use of meat coloring enhancement chemicals in the animals.

The seizure of the pigs for further lab tests was the outcome of a raid of nine pig farms in Ratchaburi by about 100 officials from the Livestock Development led by the department’s deputy chief Mr Chirasak Pipattanapongsophon following a tipoff from informants about suspected use of banned chemicals in pigs.

Urine samples from the impounded pigs will be sent for tests at the department’s laboratory and if it is confirmed that meat coloring enhancement chemicals were used by the four pig farms, legal action will be taken against them, said Mr Sorawit Thaneeto, the inspector-general and acting Livestock Development Department.

My wife has always said that pork in the local markets that is too red, means they have been treated with chemicals.

what is the point of trying to colour the meat, all it does is introduce more chemicals into the food chain as if we didn't have enough already and for what

agree, but why ? we all know that pork can be easily identified by its colour - somewhere between beef and chicken, I fail to see the point of doing this, I want my pork to look like pork, it would put me off if it didn't

No, no! Those pesky little things have no value. It is the big fat blowflies that inflate the price. Especially after they have laid their eggs.

Perhaps the Thai pig farmers learned the trick from farang Atlantic salmon farmers. That farmed fish is chock full of antibiotics, pesticides and colouring agents.

Think I'll stick to beer.

No chemicals except possibly formalin and glycerol.

It's a good thing you have chosen beer as most good brewers don't use refined sugar from cane. Therefore no toxic paraquat in beer. The more you drink the healthier you become.

Consumers of soft drinks aren't so lucky as you.

Sugarcane farmers use between 1.5 and 2 litres of paraquat per rai of sugarcane.

I suggest you look it up yourself! That way you might learn something.

Step 1. Turn on computer.

Step 2. Go to Google

Step 3. Type in search words "Toxic substance profile: Chemicals used in fish farms".

Step 4. Type in search words "Here’s why your farmed salmon has color added to it".

There, that wasn't too hard was it.

Let me know how you get on.

That's equally true for farmed salmon produced here, which has long been reported to be rife with coloring agents and who knows what else.

What we are discussing in this thread is the use of BANNED substances namely colouring agents hence the impounding of the porkers

As you seem to know all about the colouring in farmed salmon why dont you become a whistle blower and have it stopped 555555555

Oh I see everybody knows about the colouring because it is stated as such somewhere or other

Oh I see not quite the same thing then is it

Let me know how you get on
