Narongsak said the boys and their coach would dive out one at a time, each accompanied by two members of a team of Thai and foreign divers.

 

News media and everyone else not directly involved in the operation were ordered to leave the area near the cave entrance to clear access for the evacuation operation.

A group of four of the boys was reportedly being led out of the cave, after all of the trapped group underwent training for using scuba equipment, Australia's News.com reported.

You don't think some of the divers can do more than 1 round trip?

Possibly some other divers are starting from where the kids are.

I would not over-analyze this "problem"

They can't bring all of them out at the same time. So this must be a 2-3 day operation.  Will they bring out the weakest boys first it will also be more demanding.

Footballers, families fully apprised, ready to try for breakthrough

 

 

The 12 boys and their coach trapped in Tham Luang Cave for 16 days have been fully briefed on the rescue plan and are in good spirits and health, mission chief Narongsak Osottanakorn said on Sunday.
 

“They are ready and decided by themselves to participate in the operation to extract them from the cave,” Narongsak said. They are physically and mentally strong, he said.

 

Their families, who have been camped outside the cave since the group went missing on June 23, were informed of the plan and agreed it should go ahead.

 

They were invited at 7am to talk to members of the rescue mission.

 

Narongsak told the press on Sunday morning that 13 foreign diving experts and five professional Thai divers entered the cave at 10am and would begin the extraction process as soon as possible. 

The first of the boys was expected to be brought out after about 11 hours, around 9pm.

 

The 12 members of the Mu Pa Academy football club, ages 11 to 16, and their 25-year-old coach went missing in the Thailand’s fourth-longest cave on June 23 after flash flooding blocked their exit route.

 

A multinational rescue operation led to their being found safe on a dry ledge, but their extraction through narrow, still-flooded accessways has posed a dangerous challenge, especially amid concern for their health after being trapped without light or nourishment for so long.

 

Narongsak said Australian doctors had examined the footballers and determined they were strong enough for the extraction to begin.

 

They’d participated in rescue drills in the past few days, he said.

 

The decision to launch the mission on Sunday came after three chambers inside the cave drained enough to walk through and because a fresh rainstorm is in the forecast. Rescue workers are working outside the cave are trying to block water from entering the cave.

It's 18 FOREIGN divers...but all the Thai seals are there also...

I, like many on here have lived in this country a long time. After experiencing the way things work here I understand the negative sentiment behind what you are saying. However, its just negative waffle that doesnt help anything. I dont normally believe in such things but I see NO USE in sending out any negative vibes at this point in time. I have a 10 year old son, he is happily playng online games right now with his schoolmate. I physically wince even THINKING about him trapped down there. Now is NOT  the time for petty jibes.

There are very narrow areas where they have to go through single file and manuevering is difficult. You would not want more than 1 kid in those areas at a time (dangerous enough getting one through) nor would you want a pile-up of kids & their escorts in deep water awaiting to enter the narrow passages.

Leaving no possibility to deal with individual problems?

And possibly having to back the complete "train" back to the "platform"

They've said before that they didn't want to try and bring them all out at once in case they run into a problem (i.e. someone gets stuck in a narrow spot and suddenly everyone behind that group is backed up, possible in a section that is still underwater).

 

They have to consider the possibility as well of getting some of the kids part way and having to stop for some reason. There are parts of the cavern they would not want to be stuck in if the water levels started to rise again.

Nothing will go wrong if there is no panic attack among the children.

 

The pros have gone in and out of the cave hundreds of times by now, and probably know every centimeter of it.

 

Against panic, there are very efficient medicines (bromazepam for example).

On top of that, these children don't appear to be easily panicked, considering how they managed to survive 10 days in complete obscurity while keeping good spirits...

Not that it matters but on the news i have seen it has quite clearly stated a team of 18. 5 Thai Seals and 13 foregin. Its irrelevant anyway. They hqve obviously decided on tbe best course of action based on the situqtiom on the ground. Who are anyone here to question it.

Did it state that is the amount of people who went into the cave this morning ?
There were already divers in with the kids and have been ever since they were found.
