Underage driver, toddler injured in Sattahip motorbike wreck

SATTAHIP:-- Two children too young to be driving were hurt when their motorbike slammed into a utility pole during heavy rain in Sattahip.

Umarin Chumchai, 15, suffered a broken leg July 10 while her 3-year-old brother Thanakorn Charoenwong escaped with only scrapes and bruises. Both were transported to Queen Sirikit Naval Medical Center.

Umarin said she was taking the toddler to preschool, but strong wind blew her raincoat over her face as she drove the bike. She lost control and collided with the power pole.

Are the parents by chance members of the "Thais against overpopulation" movement?

Ah well, give her a break (no pun intended). She is just a kid, hope she hasnt permanently damaged the leg

There should be a hefty fine for the parents for letting the kids ride on a motorcycle at that age. But I doubt that there will be one.

Ever seen to morning school runs?  Hundreds of kids from about twelve upwards use the motorbikes to get to school, often three or four up.  It's Thailand and that is the way it is.

Yes, although she did lose face when the 'wind blew her raincoat over her face'.

It is a quite shocking figure that you would usually associate with casualty figures of a war zone ..

May be but it's pretty stupid isn't it.

And when one of us (falang) has an accident with one of those kids we are expected to pay for damages. As far as I am concerned no licence = automatic guilt... regardless...

Same for unlicensed cars...

You sound like a responsible adult who hails from a first world country

You need to lower your standards somewhat
