Would an old inner tube be suitable as gasket material?

I bought one of those rubber gaskets from our local blue pipe shop ... cost me 35thb ...wish I had thought of using what your suggestion ...

I was in Mr DIY today, they have a couple of silicone products for gasket replacements,  didn't think to take a photo but ideal for your gasket replacement.

And I thought I was ripped off at 35 thb each. TBH if you can <deleted>> up one of those rubber gaskets should you really be let loose with a spanner ....????
