Hi All

On the assumption that one always returns to the same lodgings  as specified on TM30  - does a TM30 stay good or have to be renewed.

I have a TM30 in my Passport from way back which seems to be acceptable at 90 day reporting etc.

Guest house we always stay at reports a list with name and PP No of arrivals every evening - gets collected by couple of police on a motorbike.

So all  arrivals are known etc.

Be interested in any comments.

Best Rgds.

I'm in Chiang Mai and my Thai landlord goes back to Immigration each time I return to Thailand. So far no-one at Immigration has told the landlord not to bother with his repeat visits, and a bonus is that no-one can use non-compliance with TM-30 to fine me at a later date.

Thnxs for reply both.

In a way that is what happens with me - I make sure I put name and PP No on the Form/List  when I arrive and then the Cops pick it up each evening - so I suppose it gets transcribed from there.

The TM30 receipt stuck in my PP does not appear to have an expiry date - it is well stamped by Immi etc - so I will just stick with it.

There's no expiration date for an original TM30 filing for the same address and lapse of time alone doesn't trigger anything.  Here in Chiangmai (at least so far), one does need to update the TM30 filing every time you re-enter the country and return to your TM30 registered address.  You or your landlord or condo office needs to do that as, if it's missed, you could be fined the next time you need an extension.

Your TM30 includes your TM6 or Arrival Card number, so it should be updated each time you return to the country from an overseas trip.  Otherwise online 90 day reporting isn't going to work.

Unless my memory is failing, there is no where on the online 90 day report for TM30 info. In fact, I wonder what my TM30 data trail looks like on Immigration's computer, as the several Bangkok and Phuket hotel entries wouldn't even have TM6 info, as the TM6 departure card is not clipped to my passport when I present it to the hotels. So, does Chiang Mai Immigration, when I do an annual extension, actually do a data search against my TM30 -- noting all the hotel entries, but no accompanying TM6 data? And then, does it make sure I've updated my "permanent" TM30 card with my last overseas TM6 info? Or, does it just note that my TM30 receipt is attached to my passport?

Would be nice to know, as I would love to not have to go to Immigration to get my TM30 receipt stamped with another red circle, after returning from overseas (even tho' they do give me 7 days to do this).

You're right -- the online 90 day report system doesn't need TM30 info, but it does ask for your TM6 number, which changes each time you re-enter.  The TM6 is needed to input a TM30.  Recently I returned from an overseas trips and the condo input my TM30, giving me a "print screen" of their input as a receipt.  There definitely is a field where they input the TM6 number.

In Chiang Mai, there's a chance that you'll be fined 1600 baht when you go for an annual extension if you haven't updated your TM30 to reflect the your current TM6 card number.  Doesn't happen consistently, but it happens.

Also, it's been reported that this is one reason that online 90 day reporting doesn't work for some people -- that they haven't "updated" their TM6 number because they failed to update their TM6 upon returning.  But, you're right, Sheryl, you'd think that it would already be updated in "the system" by the Imm. officer who welcomes you at the border when you return.

Best way is to avoid corrupt immigration offices completely.
