Medicare v Private Health Insurance - Different strategies - Are you covered?
I am transitioning to retirement now so correct - I am spending 4 months in Thailand this year and at this stage it will likely increase to 6 months - the way I live here I am a tourist only - but that may alter over time. But not an expat now. If you have something that needs doing and you can get it done by Medicare or Private - Medicare can be cheaper for surgery say - whereas private you'll normally have to pay some excess and then they might say there are these out of pocket costs and extra for this or that specialist. There was a whole 4 Corners story on it but it was some time ago. Googling it comes up with discussions on this. That's why if you can get it done on Medicare it might be cheaper despite paying all those premiums. But as you say if there is a waiting list or you want a specific doctor private pays off. I think the public system in Australia is good despite the bad outcomes here and there. If I lived here full time I might need to find some sort of policy to cover emergency type stuff - not sure how long you can get away with using credit card travel insurance. -

Phillip Schofield Speaks Out: "I Could Drive the Same Bus Over So Many People"
Yes, with your proclivity for grooming, deceit and abuse of power it must have been like Aladdin's cave to arrive at the BBC. As for his whataboutism and veiled threats, save it Phil, we are all know what they are up to. -

How to retire in Thailand
I live in a 35m2 condo with my wife in Bangkok. It's plenty of space for us. Very much easy to clean. My wife doesn't want to live in a bigger place and I'm very much fine with that. We don't own a lot of things. But we have everything we need. Maybe if I can figure out how to ride a road bike safely in the city I'd look into more space for bike storage. -

Looking for 6/7 seaters car in thailand
We have a 2015 Avanza and the first class insurance is only 200,000 so the price seems a bit high. However a good car with 140,000km on the clock. -

The EU's Struggle with Identity: A Shift Towards Xenophobia and Ethnic Nationalism?
The liberal idiots...keen to invite in? How long has the EU been going? 31 years. Maastricht and Thatcher, remember? You think everything was foreseeable back then? And who exactly has extended an invitation to illegal migrants? The first wave of "migrants" was from the newly joined eastern European countries liberated from the Soviet jackboot. And who didn't "hire a Pole" to get the job done, cheaply and efficiently, outclassing the Brit working classes with their £70 call out fees etc. Seems there's immigration and there's Islam. If the West chooses to invade and destroy several middle eastern countries, well actions have consequences. If millions end up on your doorstep as a result, next time, maybe think twice before devastating their countries. -

White Culture
Exactly. There's a big backstory to their document and lots of media covering it. It's pretty infamous now. What's happening is that America is showing serious cracks with its radical multicultural project to reduce the original population to a minority with non-white people from the 3rd world. They're learning in real time there's things like "Thai time" and now cultures are clashing. Next time you try to hire a black person to meet your diversity quota you better not complain she's 30 minutes late on her first day. That's racist and the legacy of white supremacy. Also she deserves a raise bigot. White Americans are finished unless they get on top of this real fast and gain some racial conscious. There's billions of people on the planet and they're going to keep coming until there's nothing left of the country. -

How many here on the Farang Pub hope to die in Thailand?
Lack of evidence and proof. I myself have been alive 68 years, and have met many thousands of people, and never have had any of them say they've had a past life, let alone with any proof of same. -

White Culture
Thais and Thailand definitely have areas where they are better than other cultures, but to say they are more civilised or trustworthy is ridiculous. Say what you want about Western countries, but they're clearly more honest (less likely to lie or scam, lower corruption, more likely to follow the rules/law) and more civilised (less racist, better educated, more empathic). Thailand and Thai people are better than the West in many ways, but we shouldn't forget that there are many ways that rhe West is superior, also.- 1

Getting a credit card
Off topic but talking about Plastic cards, I have a Debit card from SCB that i use regularly for Supermarket shopping at all Supermarkets, and I pay only the amount due with this card. I would like to know why when I use the same card at say a Travel agent, Hotel, or Car dealer ship do they try to charge me 5% extra when a Debit card is instant money for them, I have asked the bank this question, their reply is "not sure" -
