The long way back. To Thailand?

Featured Replies

These days, this Forum is full of comments of Farangs considering to "go back home". Understandable, considering recent developements on the Visa-Front and other reasons.

After a long stay in Thailand, some 3 years ago, I decided to head back to my home country, only to return to Thailand during the Winter-Months. This I did for the last 3 years.

Nothing wrong with my home-country. A corruption-free Governement/Administration, a "referendum" Democracy developed to perfection, the wages are high, the social network is intact for those that fall on hard times, the trains depart on time and no garbage in the streets. All fine and dandy.

But now comes a "but":

Every day is as the day before. Nothing happening, one way or the other.  The fear that future generations will act and behave like Robots has been implemented in my home country already.

Women over 40 do not apply Make-Up anymore (finacially secure already) one way or the other. No more need to please anyone. I insist: A caucasian woman not wearing any make-up past the age 40 is a depressing sight to see. No wonder that Farang males seem to age faster in their home country than in Thailand.

So, under consideration: I may move back to Thailand full time while keeping House and other assets in my home-country. Putting the 800K in a Thai Bank and do the 90 day hokus-pokus. Knowing, that just by looking out my window in Pattaya is more inspiring and exiting than hovering around my aging countrymen and countrywomen in my home country that can only convey boredom at it's finest.

As said, under consideration. Bucking the trend, as an increasing number of Farangs are rather thinking of leaving.

Read the above carefully and then think twice!

I was "existing" quite comfortably in my home country...I am "living" quite comfortably in Thailand.  The difference between existing and living is worth the Thai visa hassles IMHO...

thailand is fine beside visum uncertainty and

that the state dont guarantee health care.

if you can afford it, take both.

another catch is an illness in thailand can easily mean you wont make it back to safety regardless of your wealth,

so past a certain age & health decline,

i would stay in switzerland and die at peace regardless, preferably at a death clinic

so i can pick my time

I can maintain regular Health Insurance in Home-Country as long as my official adress is in my home country. Covering word-wide health events.

Won't help me much if a get struck by lightning or I fall prey to a jealous Thai Female. equipped with a kitchen knife.

Once you are dead you don't care why you are dead. Mainly because you don't know that you are dead in the first place..

"Eternal sleep" can catch up with you in Monaco or on Walking-Steet in Pattaya. It depends on how and where you spend your "autum of life".  More milage to be had in Thailand than "back-home", me thinks.

To make it worse,  500 years from now, nobody will ask where we died and what the cause of death was.

Sorry, double post.

for me, its a damn turn-off to die in a cockroach infested detention center cause i was too paralyzed to make it

to immigration.

its much preferable to chose death at a time and place of my choosing, without immigration officers demanding 'protection money' to 'maybe' ease my death.

at least, that is how i see it

Plenty of living to be had in Philippines/Vietnam/Cambodia and in some ways the living there is as exciting (if not more) than the living in Thailand.

Agreed, was home in my home country last year for the first time in 14 years and I was not too impressed either.

Also: Back in EU you bunker down inside your home and especially Scandinavia where I come from where it's bad weather app 8 month of the year.

In Thailand there is always life on the streets which I like and windows/doors open in the house.

I am staying in Thailand.

I can completely understand anyone wanting to come back to Thailand after having a short stint in their home country.

Australia is a prime example of this.

High rental prices - You can rent a decent place in Thailand for half the price of that in Aust.

Electricity prices are at the top in the world  -  Electricity here is a fraction of what you pay in A.

Food & restaurant prices are high -  You can eat out for a quarter the price restaurants charge.

Crime continues to increase in most towns -  Thailand does have crime but not as bad as Aust.

Unemployment continues to rise : Thailand has high unemployment but Australia is not developing infrustructure at the same rate as Thailand is.

Drugs are a huge problem in Australia, every town in Australia has a drug problem. Thailand does have a drug problem also.

General cost of living much higher in Australia - cost of living in Thailand is half that of Australia.

Penalty rates being taken, tax increases, rules & regulations, need a licence to fish, need a permit to dig a hole on your land, need a permit to cut a tree down on your land, have to get an electrician to change a lightbulb, cannot BBQ on the beach, PC brigade has gone beserk in Australia.

Thailand does have some rules but generally it's easier to get by everyday without all the regulations as in Australia.

I can put up with immigration rules & jump through their hoops as needed if it means living in a place where at least you know you exist and can do things reasonable free without government rules & regs.  IMO

I can understand you. And if you have the chance to keep your swiss insurance valid and find a travel Insurance which not have a problem when you stay out of your homecountry too long then I think is fine. only check this very good. As normally the swiss insurance only cover you in swiss or Europe. outside you need an additional travel insurance, and there are mostly limitations how long a trip can be.

WIsh you good luck and maybe a nice and warm stay in Thailand

Actually I think both should not wear makeup, or at least not too much. I am very happy that my wife almost not wear makeup. I want to see the real face and not a mask!

Why do they need make up? Make up is used to cover up ugly women.

'Fraid not, babes.  But nice try.  It's so cute how when men don't agree with a woman, she's automatically fat/ugly/lesbian/etc.

Ooh, I forgot.  All men are hotties.  There are just a lot out there wearing masks so nobody knows.

The people who wear make-up are insecure without it. I want to return to the old days, before make up and surgery.

I like underarm hair on a lady and if she has a hairy back and thighs then that's a bonus.

Humans are nice as they are.

I agree, life is far more interesting here, and life should be exciting and an adventure that you will not get back home, the only part I personally would have problem with is that I find Pattaya to be one of the least interesting places in Thailand... sure, it can be fun for a couple of days, but otherwise over the top, for me anyway.

Yes. The way of the modern, sexually enlightened lady.

Dagenham has leaders in femininity. Those exciting days of discovery in the back of a Ford Cortina. Don't get that in Isaan.

Lots of hairy back beauties in India.

My second wise, Fatima, was hairy.

Where ever you go, there you are. If you find your own country boring, it's probably because you don't know how to entertain yourself. Perhaps too long sitting on a bar stool?

The amount of make-up a woman does or does not wear is not going to be a contributing factor as to whether I go home or not either. I mean, seriously? I will always remember when I first came to Thailand and fat old balding pot bellied men would sit around complaining about how ugly women back home are. Mirror please!

thats actually the best idea i have heard of in a very long time

"Can easily mean??"

if if you can afford it, the healthcare available here is quite decent. Certainly many people, including some from countries with mediocre "free"  medical services, come here specifically for medical reasons.

I've spent quite a bit of time, especially in the past year, seeing a variety of specialists at Bangkok Hospital Pattaya, and a substantial number of people passing through the waiting rooms are, like me, older farang, none of whom appear distraught at being unable to "make it back to safety," whatever that's supposed to mean. I've always felt well cared for and the last thing I would want to do is head off to some European public hospital even if it was free.

"so past a certain age & health decline,

Or you could just die of boredom.

Back to safety ?  No thank you.

You and your comments are irrelevant to our lives.

I wouldn't have sex with you even if it was free.

One thing about visiting the home country was you didn't have to stress what sex the person was you were looking at, even talking to.

Think I've been here too long as I can't see any indicators those 4 ain't blokes..........................
