Gen. Surachate “Big Joke” Hakparn has been stripped of his post and reinstated as a civil servant by the NCPO." Paraphrasing the wife just now.... Moved "down" from the Immigration boss job. Still senior police but will oversee normal police operations, and also be some kind of adhoc advisor to PM's office. Suggests this is a temporary arrangement. 2

mommysboy
Press conference should be held in Grace Hotel car park, or similar, in keeping with BJ's favourite haunts. There should be much finger pointing, gallow jokes, etc.

The last line of the Khaosod article is telling: Quote Note: Some details were omitted from this story due to legal concerns. That's the kind of thing they often tack onto the end of an article that has some LM element involved.

Maybe the Daily Planet's headlines will declare another mild-mannered Immigration Officer Super-Duper I.O. in the near future to keep the loyal fan-base amused when they aren't drinking rice whiskey and singing Karaoke or watching Lakhon on the boob-tube. It's Chaijinda that needs sacking, for being responsible for the sorry state of policing, or should I say none policing, in Thailand. To be honest I like the non-policing, I like the freedom given to people, instead of the over-policed nanny state I left behind! Sure the police take tips every day at the road side, but they don't throw the book at you, they just say where's your helmet, OK 200 baht on yer way! If you prefer the policing in your home country... take a trip back there & stop the moaning, don't come here and try to change it into what you just moved away from!
Popular Post mtls2005
Given that it took ~ 9 years to strip Thaksin of his police rank it is certainly telling that Hapkarn had his police rank stripped in what, four days? And shipped off to some obscure undefined post. Quite the fall from grace. On the plus side, no rare blood disorder.

Leaving aside the question of what if anything he may have done "wrong" -- so you can have a couple of decades career as a police civil service officer here, rise through the ranks, obtain several senior positions.... and then.... Be booted out of the police service entirely and immediately with the stroke of a pen, apparently without any due process or any disciplinary panel hearing or any rights to appeal your punishment??? I think criminals have more due process rights here than that... Unless of course, he somehow waived all of those rights, if they even existed, knowing perhaps the alternative outcome would either not likely be fruitful or pleasant. Following the lightning transfer of the poster boy of the Royal Thai Police and Immigration chief on Friday it has now been announced that PM Prayut has placed the Lt-Gen on a list of civil servants under investigation.
