sherwood Posted June 21, 2019 Posted June 21, 2019 Our five year old daughter started year One at school last month and last night two young female teachers came for a visit about 1900 hrs. We had prior warning but still, 7pm ?? We live in the Korat provience. Is this normal. Photos where taken and a little polite banter and of they went across the soi to visit the household of the kid who is in grade two at the same school. I just wonder if this happens everywhere. No big deal but we where all in our PJs when they called us and kind of upset the nightly routine 555 Just checking on the home enviornment I would imagine. 1 2
Popular Post cranki Posted June 21, 2019 Popular Post Posted June 21, 2019 Yes, this is normal for our son's school also, had two teachers at our house 3 days ago.....and they gave me prior warning .....so made sure we weren't in our PJ's.... 4 1
Popular Post elliss Posted June 21, 2019 Popular Post Posted June 21, 2019 We had a home visit from school staff , normal procedure. 3
Popular Post roodujardin Posted June 22, 2019 Popular Post Posted June 22, 2019 Our boys teachers frequently visit, approx. 8 of them. Sometimes they give us a call but mostly it's impromptu. Normal teacher behavior. It's always social and friendly and photos always taken before they leave. 3

SweatySock Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 During my years as a teacher in Khon Kaen province, my school would regularly organize home visits. A group of around 4 or 5 teachers would visit maybe 6 homes in an evening. Basically to check that the information provided by the student was correct i.e. who they were living with and where. Nothing sinister, mind you that was students age 12 -18. 2 1
malt25 Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 Colin. I don't feel the OP is having a whinge. He even inserts a bit of a giggle in the post, 5555. He's merely commenting on the visit & asking if it a normal procedure. I can't find any indication of a belly ache anywhere in the post. Sorry ! 1
Popular Post malt25 Posted June 22, 2019 Popular Post Posted June 22, 2019 For what it's worth.... in ya PJ's at 7:00. 555555. To each his own I guess. 1 2
Popular Post Moonlover Posted June 22, 2019 Popular Post Posted June 22, 2019 I'm not a parent here, but I'm not in the least bit surprised to hear of these visits. The way that kids here are bumped around from one relative to another like a bizarre game of 'pass the parcel', it's good to know that at least someone is taking an interest in their welfare. 6 1

Yes most nights we have dinner early, shower and change into our PJs by around 7pm. Not alot to do in the village after dark. 9 1
Popular Post NCC1701A Posted June 22, 2019 Popular Post Posted June 22, 2019 not sure how I will react the first time someone with a uniform comes to my house. I have been thinking about setting up three CCTV cameras in the main entrance all pointed at the guest chair at a small table. one camera directly in front of the visitor like at immigration. sort of my own interrogation system. 4 1 2 8
Popular Post klauskunkel Posted June 22, 2019 Popular Post Posted June 22, 2019 While I do understand the supposed reasoning behind this visit as being to check on home life, this should go both ways as there have been many stories in the news of abusive teachers and a check on their home by a concerned parent may find some signs of bad behavior. 3 1 1

Teachers visiting in their own time, you had prior warning, yet you get your knickers in a twist about it. Yours are not the only children the teachers are visiting, would you have spent your own time ( UNPAID) to go, ? Answer probably not, so stop with your belly aching. You've a cheeky fecker, first of all, I wouldn't like my privacy invaded by teachers outwith school hours, I also don't see the need for this "big brother" treatment. Teachers are for school hours only, what you do in your private life is none of their business!! 3 4

Stop and think about the many thousands of children living here whos home life is far from perfect, the children whos family cannot support them. Like the case only last week, posted on here about the poor 12 year old boy asking his school for a years break so he could help take care of his siblings. His school by the way, managed to raise 1 million baht to help him and his family. The teachers do not do home visits spying on families, just checking that the info they have is correct and to help the children, if help is required. Sod all to do with BIG brother treatment. 7 3

Agree , can’t believe folk so willing to be bent over, immigration, education. If you had any before you,ve lost em well n truly 3
Popular Post Naamblar2014 Posted June 22, 2019 Popular Post Posted June 22, 2019 Yep normal. We had it with the kids in primary school. During the day and all the kids from the class came along too. It's good for the kids to see how others live to compare with their own situations. If they don't look outside, then they can be left thinking that their situation is normal and it may well not be. 3
owl sees all Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 Perhaps they are sussing out the home to get an idea of wealth. Then, when they want donations to fix the leaky roof, they can pencil you in for 10k. 2 1

Some people get so upset about any imposition to their privacy and independence or perceived slight to their rights that they fail to recognize a bigger picture when these things crop up. This is not 'big brother' or 'nanny state' behavior - it's simply community care and should be viewed as such. Additionally, if you think teachers are for school hours you are sorely mistaken - Teachers do a lot of work at home in the evenings and days off. For the good teachers their vocation is a calling, not just something they do for a few hours day. 7 1 2

Popular Post NoshowJones Posted June 22, 2019 Popular Post Posted June 22, 2019 Nobody hates authority more than me, but where the welfare of children are concerned, That's different, it is really good that some schools are taking an interest in the children. 4 1
Bangkok Barry Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 My wife tells me that this is normal practise and is to check if the family is desperately poor. Then steps are taken to help. And they do it every year, not just once. 2
Popular Post GreasyFingers Posted June 22, 2019 Popular Post Posted June 22, 2019 Sitting here now waiting on the visit. Hope they come before 7pm as it is a Saturday and will be a little bit drunk by then after watching the rugby. 1 3
