Click 150i = Pros / Cons ?

As mentioned plenty of FI bikes have kickstarters. A kickstarter of course can be used to generate electricity but honestly I'm not sure if it's used for that. Maybe it just moves the piston into the right position and requires enough battery to at least boot up the ECU and prime the fuel pump. I had to use the kick starter on my Click 125i couple times but I don't remember how truly empty the battery was.

Interesting, so there are some capacitors I guess that get charged up by the kicker.

If a bike needs a working battery to put fuel into the cylinder then it won't work with a bad battery.

(The spark plug is often independent from the battery)

You can kick or push start a fuel injected bike if the battery is empty (push starting a scooter is not possible). I don't know if it's working completely without battery, but i will try it the next time when i'm doing something on the bike.

This is hard to test, you can not disconnect the battery and try it, it's not the same, need a dead battery and that still depends how dead... !

 

Last year when I still had my Suzuki Hayate 125cc EFi scooter, it had an old battery and I left the switch on for maybe 25min or so, battery went totally flat. Ignition switch would not turn the engine at all, no life. Whatever I tried with the kick-start it had it would not start. A nearby shop wanted me to buy a new battery from him, for some reason I didn't like the guy and he annoyed me to no end, so I opened the battery and walked 5 min to another mechanic, put it under charge for 20min, put it back in the bike and it started with first press of ignition. That battery worked for another year with no problem....! 

 

So I'm very suspicious of kick-start working with dead battery on EFi bikes...

the kick starter does not create electricity it simply moves the mechanics to allow the engine to turn over and from there have momentum to start.

well as much as i like the new aerox and nmax the build quality is nothing special to say the least and imho below honda quality. honda still kicks yamaha in terms of quality.

the seat latch is not from bending in the middle lol although I do prefer a bike that has underbone chassis i do recognize that the others generally will not bend in the middle.  honda simply  built a bad latch mechanism.  the click is a cheap bike as are many in this price category. i like the aerox but it looks to me like it will look like crap in a few years... it is a mio with big tires and a 155 and a lot of plastic...

but my 125 is super light and easy to maneuver. zero problems in five years.

it was so inexpensive new i am not worried too much about it getting stolen and held hostage.

just put the wider tires on your click next time problem solved...

My click 125i has a key and a kickstart. Kicking it provides electricity.

My kids click 150i has no key and no kickstart.

 

Both are electronic injection and idle-stop/start.

I have a 125i which is an excellent bike, but the 150i has better colour options, if you aren't fussed about that get the 125i

Didn't know that the 150i had no kickstarter anymore. That would sway me to the 125i, countless times has the kickstart been useful for these little things. Batteries die too quickly in Thailand. I wish my big bikes had a way to manually pump some electricity into them.

 

You say it has no traditional key. If the battery on the fob is dead, does the 150i have some inductive plate somewhere to make it work anyways? I've seen that on some bigger bikes.

Didn't think of that, but if the fob is dead, the bike is dead if you locked it.

What I did think about is what if you lose the fob.

If you lose it and it's locked ....... you're stuffed, there's no spare provided.

If you lose it and it's unlocked .... anyone can start it anytime.

(and it's really easy to forget to lock it, with the engine stopped all the 'unlocked' warnings disappear after 30 seconds)

No spare key? Really? That's crazy if true.

 

BTW normally these keyless vehicles stop working if the key is not in proximity.

How about if you are somewhere up country in Nakhon Nowhere and your bike does not work anymore. How high is the chance that you will find a mechanic (or should I say electronic specialist) who can even check the injection - before he can even think about repairing it.

A carburetor has a few mechanical parts which can be checked, cleaned and fixed within an hour or so. NOTHING?

 

And about my bike: Yes, in theory it's possible to change the mapping. The problem is someone has to access the mapping. And on some bikes, including my bike, nobody found a hack to do this until now. If you browse the internet you will find some entries about hacking and changing the mapping for some bikes including some KTM. But the Duke 390 is not in that list. Maybe I should contact the factory in Austria. Do you think they will change it for me?

I see your point of view on this but there are a few things to consider. When was the last time your fuel injection system failed? Contamination of the fuel could render both the fuel injection and the carb useless but repair would be similar with diagnostic. Flush and clean is the answer.

 

If you are talking about the encased electronics failing, that is also unlikely. I don't see people stopped on the side of the road lamenting their broken ignition system and wishing points were still mainstream so a bush mechanical could file them down, re-gap them and get the vehicle on the road again.

 

I've owned dozens of motorcycles over the years and there aren't too many carbed units I would want to go back to except for short term nostalgia and theat would wear off pretty thin after a short period.

 

Modern fuel injection, I find, and I'm talking even the most basic, is crisp and offers good linear throttle response in a way few carb bikes I've ridden ever could.

 

But I also understand a lot of that is personal preference and emotion. So I'm all for others having carbs or points for that matter. But for me they are just relics now that are only good for vehicles used for sunday cruises.

I am considering to buy the 150, but the problems with keyless really scare me off, heard story about accidental battery draining, and even flat. I am wondering if the PCX keyless is any better than the click? And any safer, security wise?

Don't know how you could drain the battery, it turns itself off after about 10 seconds of the engine stopping.

(But doesn't lock itself, you forget to lock it and anyone can come along and start it later, no fob required)
