Chief of Thai immigration Lt-Gen Sompong Chingduang has announced the arrest of a British man wanted by the UK authorities for child sex offences.

A press briefing was told that a man who was originally known as Mr O'Hagan had changed his name to Mr Macleod and had traveled in and out of Thailand between 2016 - 2019.

He had been prosecuted in Britain for possession of child pornography in 2008 and despite being the subject of a court order had in 2012 been grooming a child aged 12.

When O'Hagan changed his name he turned his attention to Thailand, reported Naew Na.

He had mostly stayed in Chiang Mai but after representations from the UK embassy in Thailand Thai police started tracking him.

He was finally arrested in the Sukhumvit area of Bangkok.

He has had his visa revoked and will be deported. No further details were given about the arrest except to say that Immigration 1 officials were involved.

Once again goes to show that Thailand just like most other countries should screen people prior to letting them in, instead of chasing them once they are already in.

Thai immigration should screen every foreigner upon arrival in Thailand. Not only some nationalities. They should really do their job because some people just add foreigners a worst name... Our names are already bad because it Thai minds foreigners are making Thailand bad..

Luckily he was doing his TM 30's otherwise he would have been in real trouble

I'm sure if he was caught because he reported is address in would be in 100 font in the article:)

They aren't going to catch bad guys with a TM30 because said bad guys will not be reporting their address. Would like to know how this guy was tracked and found.

You are totally right.  Actually most if not all foreigners pedophiles arrested are farangs.  We never hear Africans, Indians, blacks, Arabs involve in these vile crimes.

Glad he’s off the streets. Hope the judicial system prevents him from having any opportunity to maim

another child.

Makes me sick.

like other posters have said should never be allowed to hold a passport, internal

country travel restricted, and monitored by parole or police officers at least weekly as to whereabouts.

rehabilitation cannot be assumed of chanced.

Maybe they're just more successful, or, they don't get prosecuted in their country of origin, therefore no record.

This guy was able to travel because he changed his name. Exactly how, officially or illegally, hasn't been explained in the article.

It would not be reasonable to blame Immigration visa issue or departure and arrival procedures for his travel. It's impossible to scrutinize every passenger to the degree required to hopefully weed out every criminal. Blaming the system for travel by someone like him doesn't make sense.

A simple police report from home country ( for free no pay) on short notice to receive , asked by any visa exempt could already exclude those ones (as the visa way would be risky to do for those ..), and Thai I.O. can consider access on whatever is marked on that document to grant access or not ...
