Well,  not much more you can do. Sounds like he's done a runner / bender whatever you want to call it.

He should have had the decency to contact you and let you know what his problem is.

I've exhausted many options, called the Tourist Police, made an announcement in Jungceylon, contacted his friends in the US & in Thailand. Will wait out til later afternoon, if no news then I'll call it a runner/bender.

just a few hundred dollars. It's a phone.

I take it he broke his phone while here in Thailand?

IDK, he is 32 years young, familiar with travel, think he will find his way.

Guess he could have been robbed or kidnapped, but for what?  Sounds like he did not have much money if he had to borrow the $300 for a phone.

so... let me get this straight.

friend goes missing in Jungceylon and what you do is search the internet for a forum to post in, find ThaiVisa, create a new account here and post on the forum asking what to do ?

Yep, well some of the advices here are pretty legitimate. Let's just say the individual I'm referring to could've gone through foul-plays—if you knew the line of work he's in.

It did get many concerned members trying to help. Perhaps they thought it was a child lost in the shopping center.

Someone even suggested he may have been kidnapped from the toilets in broad daylight in a busy shopping center!

If the whole thing is true, it's obvious the guy got a free phone from his boyfriend, wanted it, not him and disappeared.

Move on Harry Husky.

We were drinking the night before, and he was heavily intoxicated—he was sick when we checked out. I don't quite care abt the phone honestly, I was just trying to find ways to find out if he's okay, before I leave.

Who has paid the bill? You? Him? 50\50?

I am just trying to understand if he was taking advantage of you

in some ways before to do the last run with the new phone.

About the new phone i don't get it, how someone who has more money than you

can borrow you money or ask you to buy a phone for him? What was the storyboard?

He borrowed $300 for a new phone, then ran off.

Didn't buy a new phone but showed you one he already had.

It's a con trick, he made $300 then disappeared.

A 1 year ''work'' for only 300$ sound like a very little earner

unless he has had a lot of free things paid by the OP at every meet (Drinks, foods...)

Perhaps ....

prior to his disappearance the friend (whose affluence was attested to by his bank books) carelessly lost his credit and ATM cards as well as his old phone - that's why he couldnt afford to buy a replacement phone.

Still he could go to the bank desk with the book bank and his passport and have some cash deliver

unless he has carelessly lost his bank book and passport too

Only a stab in the dark, but is he some kind of scammer or confidence trickster?  ????

Clue please, OP
