Driver escapes with just scratches as wipeout leaves car embedded in guardrail

PHUKET:-- A 24-year-old man has been charged with reckless driving causing damage to state property but is lucky to escape a serious wipeout with just scratches after his car took out a guardrail on the main road onto the island earlier this afternoon (Oct 31).

 

 

Capt Thanom Thongpaen of the Tha Chatchai Police reported that he was notified of the accident at 3:40pm.

 

Officers and rescue workers from Mai Khao Tambon Administration Organisation (OrBorTor) arrived at the scene, the section of Thepkrasattri Rd between the bridge leading onto the island and the Phuket Checkpoint at Tah Chatchai, to find a grey Phuket-registered Toyota Camry still embedded in the guardrail.

Rear to kerb parking and clear of the road. Only problem I see is he left his bonnet open.

Reckless is a bit to harsh, it's just ordinary driving on the roads here.

Unusual. I would think he was wearing a seat belt.

How many more of these 'lucky escape' accidents have to happen before Phuket News staffers realize that a picture of a wreck without the registration plate clearly showing benefits absolutely no one!

Seemingly the national priority is image and increasing tourist arrivals. Public safety, driver education, traffic enforcement, (more like enfarcement) and consequence for actions are irrelevant. The carnage continues.
