A Bangkok taxi driver has been praised after returning a large amount of cash and other valuables to an Australian tourist.

On Sunday, taxi driver Uthit Senha, 49, returned cash totalling 120,000 THB, smartphones, a tablet computer and other items which were in a bag belonging to 47 year old Austrlian Andres Holler.

Mr Holler didn’t actually use the taxi but due to a misunderstanding between staff at the Bangkok hotel where he was staying, the bag was placed inside Mr Uthit’s taxi.

Mr Uthit then drove off unaware the staff had placed the bag in his taxi.

It wasn’t until the next day when Mr Uthit put his taxi in the garage for some repairs that he noticed the bag.

A short time later an appeal was put out to taxi drivers via FM91 saying a foreigner had left a bag inside a taxi.

Mr Uthit then borrowed a friend’s vehicle and drove to the offices of the FM91 radio station.

The bag could then be returned to Mr Holler who gave Mr Uthit  a 15,000 baht tip for his honesty.

Mr Uthit said this wasn’t the first time he had returned valuables to a passenger.

Previously a passenger left 50,000 baht in his taxi which Mr Uthit also returned.

Passengers who leave valuables in a Bangkok taxi can contact FM91 by calling 1644.

The lost and found section of their website features news of items that have been returned to passengers.

FM91 lost and found also has a Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/thailandlostandfoundfm91/

I was feeling, that the time was right.  Still you have to feel a little bit humbled but this act, this selfless act of responsibility and kindness. It's all warm and fuzzy at the condo now.

Decency all round it would seem. Taxi drivers so often get a drubbing for their woeful actions, so nice to hear of a good one and him being well rewarded for his honesty.

So the bag was placed in the car by staff and he drove off not knowing.

They would have then contected him to come back.

NO BIG NEWS STORY - In any normal country this is not a face saving exercise- just do the right them as a common staff mistake - no need for public relations media - BS

Now the land of honest taxi drivers just put your swords guns clubs and knives away turn your meter on and pickup customers to follow in the distant future ????

Following yesterdays headline of jail time for the cabby who assaulted the slow kid...predictable...

The story would be a perfect Thai success if the staff who put the bag in the taxi would be sitting there in shame and being pointed at.

We was about due one these honest taxi driver stories

It would be more important for customers to see the face of the cheaters or at least the taxi number!
Every once in a while a good one comes up ... the honest average is too low on the thousands of taxi drivers in Bangkok?

Haven't heard that in a long time now, :cheesy::cheesy::cheesy:.... what happened ???

Good to know that there are still good people in this world. And I think the driver deserved more than 15,000 THB tip even though that might be a lot for him already. The Aussie can be lucky to get his tabloid and smartphones back with data that is probably worth more than 120k for him.

Indeed. I wonder why he didnt carry the (rather snall sized and not heavy looking) bag himself, considering the value?

People like this taxi driver are ambassadors for the LOS and the best PR, better than any million dollar TAT campaign. This should be featured in all online and offline channels, TV, radio, newspapers and newsletters, opposing the usual crime and violence stories.

We would like to return your property.  Could you please come in for a phot shoot if you want it.

Two split system air con units a metre apart on the back wall????...........the FM91 public relations office must be a source of some very hot air.

Anyway, thank you Mr Senha for your exceptional display of honesty.   Many a taxi driver would have nicked the lot and then slept well that night.

Just the usual propaganda news that pops up on a regular basis to save face. No way all those people constantly forget large sums in a cab.

Good deed of the day, he gets my thumbs up for being an honest cabby.

Another honest Bangkok taxi driver ...…  Thailand has the most honest taxi drivers in the world. They are all honest, you leave anything in the cab... ipad, 200,000k, rolex, gold chain, wallet, land title deed, anything worth money … don't worry, don't even think about it  … it will all come to you by the radio station.

In over 20 years of visiting and living in Thailand, I have never been ripped off by a driver. I have encountered jerks, quoting ridiculous fares. But, I have never encountered a scam.

My wife once left behind a package she picked up from Thai Post. Later that evening, after he returned the taxi, the driver showed up on his motorcycle, package in hand. Our address was on the package.

Thai taxi drivers are brutally criticized, to the point that many tourists are afraid to even catch one from the airports. They really do need this "BS" to help counter the bad rep a bit.

More likely it was about due time to read of a brain dead, careless customer leaving behind a wad of cash & valuables.

This sounds odd to say the least the guy has a bag with 120000 in it and valuables and he doesn't keep an eye on it but somehow the staff have it?

Thank heavens for another "honest cabbie" story at long last.

I was beginning to get withdrawal symptoms.
