A couple of easy peasy questions for the footy guys out there that post.

Since WW11, what top flight team in the first league then 1946/47  til now, is at the lowest position down the leagues?

Second one. What top flight champion is lowest as of now 19 Sept' 2023?

Grimsby Town? I googled the league table from 46/47.

Second one. Derby County. I used google again. Hope I understood the questions correctly.

One spot on Owl. The other was not correct.

I used to run a sporting quiz night every first Friday night in the month in Willesden (NE London). The questions were somewhat loaded towards the footy and the venue was 'dry' so it kept sensible for three hours.

I can still recall some of the questions. That 10-4, and 13-2 Spurs games for instance. But there was little in the way of internet then, so getting the questions ready was really time-consuming. Also, at the same time, wrote for a monthly UK Sports Mag. Just love sport.

Here's another bit of trivia.

Goalkeeper extraordinaire.

John Burridge, played in over 750 games, including some top clubs; Villa, Newcastle, Saints, Wolves and Man City, He changed clubs 29 times (that's a good question in itself), but perhaps his most memorable game was playing for Wolves against Newcastle. He played the game dressed as a comic character. He had a £100 dare-bet with Kevin Keegan. When the news got out, a season-biggest Molineux crowd of 22,000 witnessed Burridge playing the match in what outfit?

a/ Batman
b/ Superman
c/ Spiderman
d/ Micky Mouse
e/ Incredible Hulk

f/ Barbie first half - Ken the second.

Wolves gained promotion to the top flight that season with Burridge in goal.

Great stuff, Owl Keep it going.

Thanks CL.

I laugh at your jokes on Worst Joke thread. Occasionally I put one up.

No matter how much yer try; what can't you beat?

a/ A carpet,

b/ An egg,

c/ Some sense into yer Isaan Thai wife,

d/ Manchester United.

Answer 'c'.

Talking about my one naturally. Not other farang's sensible ones.

Owl Log - 24-09-2023 - Sunday afternoon

It's all happening. This morning, at seven, the leccy people came round to ask if we would let them put posts in our number one farm, for future leccy. Now this raises an important question. Are we willing to give up sovereignty on the 300+ metres of road that I built and paid for? Cause once they put up the posts, the road effectively becomes public. Will get along there later to see progress and get some pics.

Big C. Big C.are. Had a little problem last week. And it turned out that it was my own stupid fault.

378952291_bigccare.png.552bf709e78889a0599218ea40905930.png1570407329_bigcare.png.2c2e463f71642c7ac7dc4662ec18d587.png

I am always looking our for bargains. And I was drawn towards a stand that was displaying glasses. Not the ones that hold drinks. No! The ones that make yer see better.

464324748_bigcglasses.png.3efc8873aa7e7bc26cddaec0885bb0b1.png

59 baht! I sorted out a couple of nice pairs, and called the Mrs over. She got a couple too. One of the pairs, I noticed, had a tag that said 199 baht. In fact all the pairs that we had selected had a little tag with prices ranging from 199 baht to 299 baht. I asked the nice lady at the Big Care Service Centre if they were advertised as 59 baht? And was this the bargain price for them all? Alas! The 59 baht only referred to the kiddies play items. So put them all back. I can get those glasses in the 20 baht shop. Black mark for Big Care there.

But they do have an ever-growing cannabis section.

Mildred had exams on Wednesday. She finished early and called to see if I could pick her up. Which I did.

On the way to Ban Dung, I saw a couple of quite big holes in the road. I thought that I would investigate on the way back.

On returning, the road-repair people were already sorting it.

I'm sure they will do a great job. Don't get holes that big in the 2022 every day. Not every day!!

Moved the avocado trees from outside the house to the farm. The creepers had taken a grip on the biggest one.

Cut off the creepers, and lifted the whole lot onto the pick-up.

391250171_02takeeuca.png.1cc55fa68d8b4c954590abb4c0a30b01.png

Will plant them over the week end.

Saw a large butterfly flapping like mad.

butterfly.png.ff1ef78ebb9c2a25aa6600012748f555.png

Went outside to investigate. It had got caught up in some spider lines.

Set it free it and watched it fly to freedom. Vary satisfying. Sorry spider.

It's that time of year. Guys getting their best cocks out, ready to do battle.

Had to pay our land tax on Friday. Although a big, and important, place, this government complex is right in the middle of nowhere.

The Mrs took the deeds in, and I had a mooch about. There is a lake close and I just had to drive around it. If I could!

1142067751_biglake07.png.856352961f98fd81c2cf54bd281d0dae.png

A building on the island. It looked interesting.

1061715669_biglake04.png.cee515e915fcb663f6b2d552784fcb7b.png

A bit creepy and very deserted. Although at that 'float the candle on a little raft time' it's probably busy.

249273320_biglake08.png.eae299ae06b858a31023f4d60513d500.png

It's a big lake. At a guess I'd say 200 rai.

Found a fisherman. ''What yer got there bud?'' ''Hi farang. Just a couple of pla nin.''

416453808_biglake06.png.84d0dfd80e89ebc242c64cdbb3bb8d6d.png

Found the overflow. The water goes under the road, and tumbles down the valley.

Would have looked for the underground pipe if I'd had more time. But had to go back for Mrs Owl. Best not to keep her waiting.

Visit to the afternoon market last week.

This is a daily market. Concentrates on veggies, fruit and take-away food. The Mrs asks me for money. I always part with 1,000 baht. Never get any change. That reminds me; gave her 1,000 baht to pay the tax. She said it came to 260 baht. No change as yet. She must be saving up for something.

Asked Mildred to take a pic of the school before she left on Wednesday. She took me literally!!

But with the rain comes mud.

Been some great skies lately. This pic taken outside the VOA on the 2022.

Been using the laundry service in Ban Dung. Handy for those big items like bedding, that can't get in yer washing machine at home.

That reminds me that John Burridge dressed as Superman in the game against Newcastle. (last quiz question).

Another in the week.

Relegated (last season) Peacocks and Foxes both had good wins. Saints lost again. Getting serious far Owls after another defeat.  Promoted Tractor Boys doing well. Orient shooting up their table.

Red Bull's Max Verstappen wins this weekend's Japan F1 race by 20 seconds. Wouldn't drink a RB if it was offered to me for free. Gone right off it. The drink, and the racing. Still popular though; it seems. There was a plan to host an F1 race, around the streets of Bangkok, a few years back. Don't know why that didn't materialise.

Gonna help Mildred with some maths, ready for her mid-term exam tomorrow.

Shop lady next door to us is out of hospital. Went in a hospital in Udon, a week ago, for a leg operation. Seems to be OK.

Leccy bill a little lower this month. Just over 2k baht.

Michael and Mem - breeder of our two dogs, Robert and Oscar, - paid us a visit today. Had a great chin wag.

Two people in the village died last week. In the down-village area. Not much news on it from the Mrs.

No rain forecast for the following week. Has the dry season kicked in? Good job the ponds are full.

Only one thing left to say; bye y'all

Good post Owl.

I pay for the MinL's leccy. This month it was 565 baht. Ours was just over 2k baht. What do we run? Certainly not air-con. That is for wimps. Two fridges, A bathroom water heater, Water heater in the kitchen. Very occasion use of micro-wave and juicer. TV and router. Lights. Very little things like the computer and charging mobiles.

The big gobblerupper is the fans. Three in the big bedroom. Three in the lounge. One in the little bedroom, and two in the outer area. Not all on at the same time though.

Later in the year, it should drop down to 1,500 like last year.

PS

Nearly forgot, a daily 10 minute pulse charge for the pick-up battery. It's on the blink, but I can't afford  new one.

PPS

Once every three months, charging my hair cutter.

Air con is not good for you PW. Not natural.

Get with the earth and its subtle vibrations. Kick off those shoes. Take off that shirt. Feel the grass beneath your feet. Feel the sun on yer back. Look at the branches of the tree. Wonder that is bears fruit.

Good to see the two of you today.

What do you think about this?

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-south-yorkshire-66972872

Thanks for the support Mutt.

Read about that this morning. Were these guys drunk when they dreamed this up? If they were, they still went through with it. Not a good footballing incident in my book. And on a humane level; simply appalling. They are still in the nick at the mo'. Will that teach them? What will they say in their defence? It was a joke m'lud! Don't think they should get bird. 500 hours road-cleaning, in a Sunderlnad shirt, would be just fine.

I heard unsavoury chanting about the Busby Babes Munich crash in Spurs' ground, in a game during the early 1960s. The intoxicate characters. were soon told to 'shut it' by the Spurs supporters..

The best way to wind up the opposition is to score goals, and chant the score.

Owl Log - 01-10-2023 - Sunday afternoon

I thought there was something odd about that pylon (we used to call them; 'gangoleers') next to the 2022. Just had to investigate.

ccreepers.png.2a611a6912e23eaad1bc50364508b622.png

The creepers are reclaiming their habitat.

creepers.png.80f5445fd52db7c3c0c4aba7c7790fc0.png

Mrs Owl was with me, so I couldn't get closer. I'll keep my eye on that particular pylon. Try to get a few close-ups next time.

We were on our way back from the garden centre. Went to three, before finding the little trees that she wanted.

These centres are great for a mooch about.

Went straight to the farm and Mrs Owl planted them around the ponds.

The avoes, that me and Mildred planted, looked a bit down with 'transplant shock'. But we gave them some water, and the following day they were looking much better.

Special day in our area yesterday. Only happens twice a year. I told Mildred about it. Great excitement. The Mrs was not so enthused.

On Friday there was a special Buddha. First have to give morning offerings at the temple. Then - and it must be before noon - give any land that you wish to prosper, a little something. A sort of bribe or sweetener. Mrs Owl gave some cookies, fruit and a couple of fags.

Michael and Mem came to see us last Sunday. The dogs were overjoyed to see them. And when they left, both Robert and Oscar, cried for an hour.

There were two cows. One is going to a good home I reckon, 'cause it's not out front any more. The other one is nearly ready.

The big chickens are 3,500 baht. The cow 11,000! If my Thai hearing is still good. Cat will probably be about a thousand.

Treated myself to new footwear. Tried them on and they fitted OK. Was a bit shocked at the price; 85 baht. But she was a fine looking lady and, I didn't want to disappoint her. So I splashed out.

When we went to the farm to do the offerings on Friday. It was teeming down. The overflow into pond 4 was doing a great job.

And in his front garden a great growth of reishi mushrooms.

The Thais call it Hed Lingzhi.

I've said not to cut them down until they mature. Will save me a fortune. But then again, one of the reasons for visiting Ting, the 'hat lady' will have gone.

Nature is strange! There is one tree, in number two farm, that is bristling with nuts. It's the only one that I can see like this.

Finally a most incredible pic.

I was researching pre-war football on the comp', when I felt a strange sensation on me toe. I looked up and,,.

toe.png.015b8758ff73db3113dba3806cf21830.png

A shaft of light. A message! A warning! A sign! Gonna win a few competitions with that pic.

I was just thinking that The Owls were turning the corner. When,,, slap, whack, bang,, a 0-3 loss at home to Sunderland. In big trouble now. Leeds travelled to out-of-sorts Saints, and were hopeful of 3 points. 3-1 to the South Coast team. City lost at Wolves. The Hatters got a dream win at Toffees. Toon smash Blades for 8. At Bramall lane too.

Very contentious VAR decisions at two matches yesterday. Both Seagulls and Pool can say; ''we was robbed''. And they were. Just like The Cottagers a week or so ago against City.

Back in Dagenham,. Two of my local teams were matched up in the early FA Cup round. Aveley and Hornchurch. Replay in the week as it ended 2-2.

Mildred got her  first commissioned bit of artwork last week/end. She did www 'painting' for someone and got paid 50 baht. In 'True money'. I've seen it. It's very good. Don't think I can show it without the owner's permission. I'll ask.

Mildred has gone all treeified. Her last three paintings have all centred around trees. And I keep finding these little sketches scattered about. I think she does them when she's chatting to her mates on LINE. I'll put them at the bottom of the OL.

The end of the wet season is finally here. I have thought that before, and it has rained. But this time I'm sure. We can now look forward to 5 dry months. Starting today.

Big golf w/e. England are smashing the Yanks evidently. Somewhere is Spain.

Bloody skint til later this week. Had 14k spare and it all went on debt repayments. Can't even afford any cheese at the mo.

I've been informed by Mrs Owl that Thaksin Shin', will be out of hospital, and free, by the end of the year. i want to see Yingluck back. Always thought she was a nice bird. Thought that about other women too though. I'm not the best judge of the washer-uppers perhaps.

Have to charge the pick-up battery, whenever I want to go out. Might buy a new one soon.

The light has gone out at the front. That's the one that I sorted out a couple of months ago. Could get to it this week. Mildred is off school until the 24th of this month. That is great for me. Some company. And she can help me fix the light.

Waiting for the £ - Baht exchange rate to shoot up. Hovering between 44 and 45 at the mo. Perhaps that's it. No more 70+ baht to the pound. I need it. And I'm not the only one. Could go the other way even; down to high 30s. Mrs Owl say she wants to go to England to earn her fortune. I say that is extremely difficult, and fraught with obstacles. But she has been talking to the 'right' people and says it's easy.

Sad story of a fatal incident in Croydon, London. 15 year old girl was the victim.

Move Forward Party's, and, Deputy House Speaker, Padipat Santipada has been ousted from the position. A strategic move evidently!

Only one thing left to say; bye y'all.

That clock looks familiar. What is it? Of course it's Big Bill. Or is it Ben?

Apologies if I missed it Owl but I was sure you'd have mentioned this today.

As far as the Owls go, there's trouble at t'mill. We've had it.

That is really sad. A 300 year old tree cut down by vandals, for no apparent reason. I have to admit that this photo brought a tear to my eye ...

tree.jpg.cde81a84b9bf87478a315c1c7f19fb35.jpg

Looks like some damage to the 2,000 year old wall too.

Thanks for that Owl.

I'm really baffled by this tree cutting thing. A couple of bods are involved. Why???

There is plenty of time left. Unfortunately it seems like the team is just not up to it. Just what is wrong with them?

Looks like a clean cut. A power tool way out there? Perhaps one of those two-people saws.

I'm saddened and completely baffled.

It was not England playing the US.

It was:::

The 44th Ryder Cup

Venue: Marco Simone Golf and Country Club, Rome Dates: 29 Sep - 1 Oct

England stopped playing the Americans in the Ryder Cup a long time ago. In the early 1970s.

Couldn't even get the country correct. I'm losing it. Where's that Reishi?

Bloomin' heck Owl you still didn't get it right. It was never England v USA. Originally, it was GB v USA.

????

Being a team event, I think it is far more exciting than any of the various "Opens" etc. - The Ryder Cup almost always gives a "nail biter" finish.

Also, refreshing to see  no cheating, and genuine sportsmanship, in the game of golf - unlike some other sports.

I think the Thai Chairman is skint. He brought this bloke in, probably paying him a pittance, he's recruited frees, some  from abroad, he's dropped most of the existing players to play his new recruits that don't look up to standard. Fully expect the players we finished the season with will now be brassed off. He's isolated Marvin Johnson, won't name him in the 25 man squad but there was deal on the table to loan him to Derby, so we now pay his wages but can't play him, why wasn't he sent out on loan. Johnson is training alone and the fans don't know whats happened. Reece James another one, we had him on loan last season and signed him between managers, now he can't get in the side. Now they both play on the LHS, but he currently has a right winger playing there.

There's protests being organised, Chairman releases statement condemning fans. It's a mess. Here's the Chairmans statement.

Blokes not the full ticket, it takes a special type of character to pee on the euphoria after the play offs, but he's managed it.

Tonights rumour, believe it or not, is that Scott Parker is being lined up to take over. I'd be surprised if this was the case, southerners going up north tend to get nose bleeds. Get a few Baht on him if you can.

Thanks for that tip Owl. I'll take a look.

What about 'Big Sam'? He don't have no truck with those 'tippy tappy', systems.

'''''On 29 September 2023, following fan protests, owner Dejphon Chansiri said he would put no more money into the club, unhappy with fans' treatment towards him and his family. While the club, sitting bottom of the Championship, was not technically up for sale, he said he would be open to offers.''''

Here's the big chance. Get the fans organised and buy the club. Man Utd was up for sale a while back and if 20k fans had put their hands in their pockets for 600 squids each; the club would have been theirs.

This is maybe, a once in a lifetime chance to own yer club. Get in there Owl fans.
