The rest is not due to genetics. 40-60% averages to 50%, so you are back to nurture versus nature. In simple terms that you can understand, crime tends to run somewhat in families, and studies suggest genetics plays a moderate role in explaining why people differ in criminal behaviour—but environmental and social factors are just as important. Having "bad" genes though doesn't mean you end up being criminal, any more than if you had a BRCA mutation you will end up with breast cancer (male and femal), prostate cancer or pancreatic cancer. It just means the risk is raised.
