Having lived and worked in India, I doubt your comment. His idea of "legit" will be considerably different from yours. Indian business people are skilled in the art of palm greasing which pervades all things in India. His problem will be attracting non Indians - Westerners, Japanese, Koreans, Arabs etc to places aimed at the Indian market and therefore teeming with Indians. He needs the non Indian market as Indians won't spend enough.

I would not go , and i think many more would'nt , i am not racist i have had dealing with indians when i lived in the UK . I do not trust them and a large percentage of thais will not either . It will completely destroy  tourism when they move in and also course trouble .

Will probably be "family friendly"

Cafes and boutiques for mom and playgrounds for the kids while daddy is enjoying the hospitality of gogo bars and short time rooms ?

Why are people assuming this new venture will be targeted at Indian clientele ?

When was the last time you were on Walking Street? No shortage of "family tourists" there any day of the week, just there to gawk at things they read about in newspapers back home. Just another zoo to them. "Family tourists" posing for selfies with the feather boa clad ladyboy cabaret stars. So what have YOU got against "smut"? You some kinda altar boy or something? I love your choice of that word. Right out of the 19th century.

Indeed I'm glad that you decided to step back from the rants of an ignorant, racist rabble. Indians were here long before most of the people posting here arrived in Pattaya.

Indians are also more closely related to Thailand than many of the westerners posting here. So the petty insults don't endear them to anyone, but other stupid racists.

These guys are thais, with thai passports from a sikh heritage and came to thailand many many moons ago. The nana owner are also Thais, just because they have indian heritage doesn't make they are non thai - they have thai passports after all and were born here, same as the Sino Thais, Laos-Thais or anyone else.

They have the same rights here as every other Thai and that's why they are successful, that's fundamentaly different compared to a random indian or farrang opening a titty bar complex - which is literally what is happening here.

The way that guy speaks and gives an interview yeez, Did you ever hear of a random spontanous call to Thaivisa for some lame advertisement before? I didn't, says enough about the owner.... Seems blue behind the ears and naive to me.

Hahaha, what a laugh, the Indians are truly moving in!!!!

theyl be taking over soon. 2-3-4-5 guys splitting bar fines, sharing drinks, curry stalls out front. Pattaya- little calcutta????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Charter flights, walking 6- abreast down the streets. They can't fill the bars now, another 39 bars- gogos. Pattaya is turning into a circus.

Ummm, when was Pattaya NOT a circus? Isn't that why we go there? And I see couples and families up and down Walking Street every time I go there, what do you think they're doing? THEY'RE THERE TO SEE THE F-NG CIRCUS! Not the sex and debauchery itself, but the outer facade, like posing for selfies with the cabaret ladyboys.

I do hope he has ordered a bulk quantity of brown envelopes. Only way this has a chance of working.

How much of this did you read? He's already been there 9 years. And you think he doesn't know how things work, all "fees and costs" included? You think if the entire peanut gallery of commenters here on TV knows all about this that he doesn't? So who are the fools, really? The naysayers. As they always are. The naysayers and know it alls.

if they have Thai passports why was work permit mentioned ?

Why is everyone assuming the target market is Indians?

Just because the owners are Indian, does not mean that is their target demographic.

As I understand it, Nana Plaza is owned by Indians, and they have been running that for a long, long time, I assume successfully, and that is not specifically targetted at any one demographic.

Nana is owned by Thais who happen to be of Indian decent

But your not racist. Just a few bad experiences with overzealous tailors, right? here's a clue for you: Anyone who feels the need to declare they're not racist IS. There is a huge Indian and Pakistani population where I'm from in the US, they are the best doctors I've ever come across, they have none of the arrogant American egos that one finds in the rest of that profession. I have never met an Indian in the US that wasn't nice and respectful. So you're a f****g racist with all the usual rationalizations to justify it while denying it. Destroy tourism? It's people like you who stain this country, self deport please

Because Sean doesn't have a Thai Passport

"These guys are thais, with thai passports from a sikh heritage and came to thailand many many moons ago. The nana owner are also Thais, just because they have indian heritage doesn't make they are non thai - they have thai passports after all and were born here..."

Wrong.

If one or more parents weren't Thai, they're not Thai.

No such thing as Thais of "Indian descent".  Thailand is not America.  There is no citizenship by birth, only "blood".

India, after all, is also in the Asian continent. Indian languages share Sanskrit roots with Thai, as well as their Hindu deities. I tell people there is virtually no racism (the ugly malignant American type) here, I need to qualify that by saying there is generally no malignant racism in Thai culture, no one ever enslaved them or brought african slaves here to sow those seeds, but it exists still among the foreigners who brought it here with them along with their other western plagues.

You mean we have to read articles? Damn, you're no fun. Ignorance is bliss.

Apart from Villa, and maybe even including it, every business going into The Avenues has been a dismal flop, including the recently closed "exclusive  night club" whose name escapes me.

I doubt this will be any different.

No i have never been to Nana complex in Bangkok

but you misunderstanding my comment, i am not talking about

the noise created by the establisments themselves, but more than

the noise of the drunk customers shouting on the parking area

a sort of collateral damage.

Out of curiosity how works Nana plaza in Bangkok?

I have heard from differents sources from the last months

it was pretty calm and not far to die

Go there, dummy. Don't ask us, see for yourself. Nana is well managed with tight security

There are many Thais of Indian extraction who came to Thailand 70 years ago- had children' invested money in land when it was cheap and built large  companies to include Condo's; hotels' restaurants and markets.  They are mostly Thai citizens now, speak perfect Thai and have assimilated by adopting Thai names.

The Indian community takes care of each other and normally finances projects within the community. However, with the exception of Nana Plaza they do not normally enter the bar business and even at Nana- their fucntion is land owner and  make their money off of leases.  They do not run the business.

If I had to guess, the person who is making the pitch for the Avenue will  either be the land owner if he is Thai or an Indian-Thai will be the land owner and make their money off leases and not running a bar business.

If this comes to pass, you won't see Indians with turbans floating about. The target will be convincing  people who run bars to relocate to the Avenue based upon lower rents and lower prices.  The goal will be to take busines away from Walking Street; Soi 6-8 and LK Metro.

The patrons that these busineeses will target are the ones who go to the entertainment areas now- be they Westerners; Middle Easterners and yes some Indians.  If they know how to market the area- they may be able to pull mongers from abroad who  know Thailand and are lookin for some fresh action.

Tthe key to success will be to completely rent out the complex. Whether the busineses themselves survive for long will depend upon holding prices stable; getting the right  staff along with the right service girls and making sure everyone gets paid as well as  establishing a recurring clientele.

Anyone who goes into the complex needs deep pockets; a knowledge of the bar business; how to speak Thai and patience. No newby owners without the aforementioned experience allowed.

Yes, the taste is far different. There is an Indian Club in BKK Soi Nana called Bad Shah, their "coyotes" really are canines.

With all the screeching about the Pattaya sex industry pro and con, perhaps this business plan would be better served by repurposing some of the now less frequented venues in the more shady area.

Use a compass or read maps much? Badshah is not in Soi Nana, but further down on Soi 4 across from a normal lively pub.

Oh ... My Saint Mother Teresa of Calcuta!!!
Another one GO-GO Bar!! ????

Really??

What about the Major Cineplex and the bowling alley  by example ? There wouldn't be there from the beginning if they were not doing decent business  and they will continue

Smaller business like Mc Donald, Starbuck... probably do well and will stay here to.
