A video of the final moments of 51 year old Gary McLaren has been posted by Siam Chon News.

Mr McLaren can be seen ushering people to pass by as he attends to a large rocket set up outside a pub in Soi 13/2 on New Year's Eve.

After some moments he turns it over and it starts to spark. He then appears to look closely at it before it explodes.

Siam Chon News said this was the clearest evidence yet of the tragedy.

Mr McLaren's grieving fiancee Jasmine posted in Thai on her Facebook page just hours later in response to inquiries from friends:

"My boyfriend died on December 31st after a firework exploded in his face.

"We were due to marry on January 17th".

Thaivisa understands that Mr McLaren's body was transported to Bangkok for an autopsy. Jasmine had been helping the Pattaya police with their inquiries.

Mr McLaren was a frequent visitor to Pattaya and was extremely well liked. He was involved in the Moto GP bike community in IT and technology.

The story of his death was trending at number one most read on the BBC's online.news site on New Year's Day.

Note to self: don't lean over huge bombs after lighting them.

Once lit step well away, never try to relight if it has not exoloded.

Heartbreaking... what was he thinking?

A wasted life and maybe fueled by some New Year "spirit".

Almost six(!) seconds after initial lighting hanging over that bomb.

As he is a brit, he would have been taught this at school and on TV so i can only think possibly alcohol played a big part in his demise

I haven't noticed that all the Brits who are not yet drunk act very rational in Thailand...

And obviously not only the Brits.
