  • How pathetic coming out with a comment like... Got to rid Thailand of criminal elements and foster peace and stability in the Kingdom.???? Silly bug++r is just a long time overstayer, criminal, se

  • Oh yeah, no doubt he was A hardcore criminal

  • This goes to show these TM30 and 90day reportings are a waste of time.    Why do immigration need to take 13 years to nap an overstayer when everything is in the computer system?

Did  they wrestle  him to the  floor? right after they "swooped"

I'm surprised the Navy Seals wern't called in for such a rough and ready character.........

He'll be banned for 10 years, if he is still alive after that.

Nah.....you can come back in 10  years  if  accompanied by   both parents!

What is the use of law then?

Thai  law is  about as  flexible as can be IF you can afford it or IF they lose  big  face as they should be on this  one.

No mention of the Red Bull heir then ?  Just this dangerous hard core crim..........  Utterly pathetic.....

How pathetic...  The two guys posing should be ashamed of themselves.  And they wonder why their reputation has been so damaged.  Thailands reputation and strong baht is going to only get worse for them.  Foreigners bad, Thais never do anything criminal...

Yes, I'm for punishing "real" criminals of any nationality!

Something tells me that a local wanted money from him and he did not give them any.  So the local snitched on him for not being an ATM, in hopes of something like this would happen...

As usual the article leaves out the reasons for this character overstaying for so many years.  Everyone assumes the scant, published details are the full story.

Of course the Thaivisa social workers all presume he is an exemplary character Just because he's achieved great age.

Unless you know him intimately how do you know he's led a good life? His decision to ignore the immigration laws of his adopted country suggest to me otherwise.

Remember the old adage, only the good die young. Some of the most infamous people on the planet reach high age.

Don't you think that if this overstayer had been involved in any other criminal activity there would have been a big vinyl board 'crim map' with about 20 IO's posing for their regular back slapping, smiling photo?

83 and still a dumbass. Too bad, throw the overstaying bum out.

I knew his brother Thomas also sadly gone now your NHS Bill is waiting Mr Cook????

He won’t have an NHS bill as once he lands back in the U.K. he informs the authority he is back permanently. He will then be entitled to a bus pass , free TV licences and the current Old age pension . As I stated you have to inform the local authorities that you have returned permanently to live .you need to get your facts right. The 3 month non NHS treatment is only if you are not going to reside in the U.K. on a permanent basis  and in case you are not aware even when receiving your OAP if you return for a holiday even if it’s only two weeks you ring the pension people and you will get the updated pension for that period your in the U.K.

I find it sad that someone turned him in after he lived here 13-1/2 years and probably very peacefully.  There is more here than meets the eye.

Do the parents have to be alive, or can we bring them in their coffins?

He won't be entitled to NHS treatment if he has been out of the country and not contributed any 'points' to it, same for the UK pension.  If he never told them he no longer residing in the UK he will also be in trouble, unless he still had an address there all these years.

????(just this expression)

I love all those gloaters informing us he will not be entitled to NHS. Theoretically  yes, but there is a way around that. But let's not put it on here to have that loophole closed. If he survives IDC and gets back to the UK he will receive some care. I wonder why Immigration came knocking after all this time. Thai family fed up caring for him? Maybe he called the help  line himself.

Just as all the keyboard warriors have kept Thai Immigration fully informed of ways around rules. Most of Somchai's policies come from knee jerk reactions to research done online......

On a more serious note always have plan A alternate plan B and an escape plan C when it all goes tits up here. We are all guests. They are also fed up with clearing up after old farang after death who have no relatives; especially in highly farang  populated areas like Pattaya.

The system is broken and there is not one Thai official with an idea of how to fix it sensibly and fairly.

I'm not saying you are wrong, but in that first link you posted, there is no mention that I can see of losing your NHS entitlement after only 3 months.  I did a quick Google and I can't see anything in the results that specifically tells me that.

The second link is a very interesting read and I shall look at it in more depth later.

EDIT - it seems that whether a permanent resident or not, emergency treatment at an A&E department is always provided free.

After returning to the UK with my wife and children after 9 years living in Thailand (returned April 2019) what I can tell you is I got treatment with a GP straight away, on my wife's visa she pays (I think £200 a year NHS charge). We all registered with a GP on arrival. Where 3 months comes in is you are not entitled to any benifit or government funds for 3 months and its 2 years before you can claim disability. You most defiantly do not stop being British after 3 months. My mum just returned from Canada with nothing and is being treated for cancer straight away (she was out of the UK for 7 years). I hope this helps. Hind sight for me is I wish we had never left the UK.

As I was told many years ago by a wise old expat: Never invest any more in Thailand than you cant walk away from. I personally felt I was not secure enough with almost daily changes to immigration so we left while I was still young enough to start again in the UK. The 9 year holiday was fine but I will never leave the UK again.

Do Thai expats living in Germany have to report for T30 also. If not they should!

well it makes ya wonder, why would you have such a long overstay? unless he was a bit dodgy or maybe just a tight git.

probably ran out of cash, just left with the pension

Nobody should be overstaying but without knowing the guys personal circumstances we shouldn't really judge him.

hmmmm .... 83 and will be going back,  it won't be a very nice home coming.

I expect he has nothing except the OAP

But at least he will get an unfrozen pension. But maybe freeze himself. Good luck to him. He will need it.

For 20,000 baht a stay of 4,929 days (about 13,5 years) that must be the cheapest thai visa ever.....well done, sir

Not forgetting ALL that 90 day BS

Would be interesting know how many of those here who are defending this man’s crimes are the first ones to complain about immigration in their home countries and vote conservative or far-right parties.

This guy was staying in the country illegally for more than 10 years. He knew he was breaking the law.

Thai expats in Germany have to comply with German laws same as German expats living in Thailand have to comply with Thai laws.

How did he get away with it for so long? If he had stayed at a hotel during that time surely they would have reported him.

I hope that someone that knows him posts his circumstances.  This is all very odd.

Does he have a wife? Kids? Thai family?

House condo? Where was he living?

At his age if he is alone I hope someone gives him a helping hand.
