Rang Mitsu and was told that an extra remote would be 3000 baht, are they normally that  expensive? Seems like a bit of a rip off to me. Could buy a small LED TV for that price. Only has two buttons, open and close, how complicated could it be?

I assume that it is not simply a remote for opening/closing door but a key with transponder to unblock the immobilizer? (does it have one?).

As I understand it involves some programming of the control unit.

I once misplaced my remote for Mazda and was quoted a higher amount.

Fortunately I found it later on.

I have an original mechanical spare key without remote but with transponder.

Can open doors and start engine.

Had a key-cutter doing a duplicate.

Can open doors but can not start engine.

I paid 2,360 Baht eight years ago for a spare key and remote for a Nissan (only for the doors, doesn't start the engine).

That’s only key, remote and coding can be done ONLY at the factory And 3000 is a bargain , usually it’s 5000-6000 for late models  latest models come with a special number and this number is needed to code new remote and key.

for yummy Xmax it’s 2500 baht

Not dealers , factory. Dealers only take your order and charge a fee , no doubt adding some for themselves as well.

work colleague had a Ranger fob key cut and coded at Big Key Pattaya.

Is the "remote and coding can be done ONLY at the factory" a Mitsubishi thing ?

If it was that easy why do they give you a special number which must be kept safe and without it can not recode?

Only guessing , but maybe big key can make copy but not a new one , without the original

what are you calling a factory, what springs to my mind when talking about vehicles and a factory is mentioned i think of the assemble plant for that make of vehicle

key cutting shops scan the chip in the old key and re-chip the new key to that chip, a bit like car thieves

Got a new Suzuki key for 700bht using the original chip, if I needed a chip it would be 3500bht. Suzuki wanted 4500bht..????

700 baht is just for the shell, not the internals.

That's what I said, they call it the key frame..I could have bought a folding key frame at 1000bht using my original chip..
