Thailand confirms six new cases of coronavirus, including four Thais - health ministry

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand confirmed six new cases of the new coronavirus on Tuesday, four of them Thai nationals and two Chinese.

 

The four Thai people included a couple who had visited Japan and two drivers who had picked up Chinese passengers in Thailand, the health ministry said.

 

The new cases brought the total reported in the country to 25.

The patients under investigation still the same ? or did they test everyone and only 6 got it ?

And meantime at the airport, it's to the Chinese. Totally irresponsabile attitude, considering the majority of nations who have banned all inbound and outbound flights to China.

Had to, Japan was claiming #1 behind China. Can't lose the hub position.

These 6 samples would be somewhere from near a week ago if the diagnosis backlog is FIFO (First In, First Out).

Better wear that mask when hopping into a taxi from swampy, if you really have to travel to Thailand at all. Remember to wash hands before taking the mask off at destination and after taking the mask off.

So Thailand started seriously breeding its own cases instead of importing them, are they going to say "Chinese visitors are not at fault anymore so we don't have a reason to keep them out" ?

First it was one Thai (the taxi driver), now it's four more for a total of 5, and then and then.....  And those are just the "official" numbers...

And thai people on this forum keep saying it's a foreigner illness. Doesn't affect Thai according to them.

These are likely still imports, Thai-to-Thai is just brewing now and that wave will start to show up in 1-2 weeks.

"But if we can contain the virus by the end of February...."

 

Right now, Thailand is at a fork in the road and they know it.

 

Close the border to China, focus on local containment and possibly save your country.

 

Or keep letting the walking dead in, brew your own virus source, be banned by every other country and suffer the consequences...

 

Your call Prayut...think carefully...you get one chance.

You think the two Thais got it on their travel in Japan or from Chinese en route?

 

No way to know for sure right now, but I'd bet just as well they got it here from taxi drivers or someone else. To travel to Japan, presumably they had to go and return thru Suvarnabhumi, etc etc.

Hmm... if the samples from them are from about a week ago and they went to hospital by themselves when symptoms hit, they would've gotten the infection 2-3 weeks ago. I'd say the highest probability was at an airport with Chinese walking around. Which one, no idea.

So, of course, whoever affected those 2 drivers don't count into the official numbers.

The RO of this virus in recent studies was put as high as 4.08. The who estimated it to be at 1.4 to 2.3 on Jan 23.

I'd imagine a taxi driver would be able to pass the virus on at even a higher clip then a normal person. Being they are in close contained quarters with so many different people a day. Very scary situation. 

 

And so it begins. Just like the cases / deaths have shot up in China over recent days, I expect the same to happen here in the next week etc. 

 

This whole fiasco has epitomised Thailand's government to a tee. 

 

There is literally no defending it and it is negligence by the guys in charge.

Exponential spread like Guangzhou 2003 SARS, but deadlier. That seems to contradict the often quoted 2% mortality.

I hope no one dies but I’d love to see the entire government hit with this virus. Maybe next time they take it more seriously.

 

They have an obligation to protect their people and they are instead throwing them all under the bus.

They will allow Chinese per usual until burn season officially kills off the numbers then they will announce strict measures to protect the country. They will be regarded as heroes globally and praised by the WHO and other organizations.

 

I don’t understand the politics of all of this but it angers me greatly.

But we found the cure and it works in 48hours, just ask us....its an antiviral and HIV cocktail........so we have it 100% under control....

Three times more transferable than the flu, and a 2-10 day period where you don't show symptoms but can transmit the virus? It's going to be a long time before this is over...

Better face the reality. The outbreak has already happened here.

About the only obligation this administration seems to have is to have their snouts in the now swiftly diminishing trough.

If the opposition parties (Future Forward/TRT) had any balls and cared for the people they would be shouting from the rooftops as to why the borders have not been closed to the Chinese, and what are the real numbers for infected people in Thailand and call a vote of no confidence in the Govt....
