But seriously he can complain and the law will be of assistance  in UK

More than often that's not the case here

The ignorant skinheads who beat this guy up were looking for Chinese to rough up, feeling that they have brought this virus on the world through their nasty habit of eating bats, snakes, civet cats & etc. Unfortunately the only Thais who have money to go to London are Thai-Chinese which puts them at great risk of being targets of this type of anti-Chinese discrimination and violence there and elsewhere in the West.

It's only shocking if a person completely disregards the reason. You don't find this level of disenchantment in most other Asian countries. Thailand is special. Now ask yourself why.

I think people who have lived here and experienced the behaviour of a lot of Thai people over many years, do consider Thailand to be quite racist.

and the comments about people not coming to his aid when he shouted to them....well a long time ago I was attending a concert with my wife and some of her family in Udon Thani and her niece (after a few drinks) started

grabbing hold of me with both arms around me, I tried to stop her by getting out of her grip I asked my wife could she help, inside two minuets

we were surrounded by angry Thais and if it was not for my taxi driver who jumped in between me and the snarling crowd, I think I would of ended up in hospital, this was for nothing just a silly girl acting silly.

after sixteen years of things like that, and many others you do come to realise that although there are some who know that all foreigners are not bad and act accordingly, they are out numbered by their brainwashed cousins....who if you would of shouted them, would of done their best to

break every bone in your body.

The assault may have come from racism and prejudice against him, an Asian.

Put up with London or option #2 is return home!

Same as we get over here.

what countries discriminate and even hate foreigners the most? Is it USA and England? I lived for 6 months in Russia. they would seem to be number 1 but they have few foreigners living among them. ... and few visitors. I did see 2 black men in 6 months.

You have to be a foreigner or look like one to understand racism in the UK, I never thought it was a real issue because I lived out in the safety and comfort of the Shires, then a few things happened and I began to see it for what it is. It's not always overt in many cases but it's nearly always just under the surface. An old chum of mine now deceased was a lawyer in a high profile role at Natwest bank, he was married to a Thai for many years and he swore that the UK was the most racist country he'd ever seen - some of you will remember Nick and Piao from Soi Yamoto in Pattaya years ago.

And try to visit the UK with a Thai wife and watch how she is treated and regarded when you're not right there, it's shameful. My wife and I went into an HSBC branch because she had twenty quids worth of change she'd saved and she wanted it exchanged for a note, the teller dismissed her out of hand said we don't do that! I walked over and took the coin and told her to exchange it and she was all smiles and full of yes sir no sir! Other examples are too numerous.

Well, from where I sit, social engineering. Symptoms of deeper , difficult / impossible to solve problems. By design.

Who profits from this?

At least he don't get overpriced, scammed, robbed and extortion by the police in London. And he probably don't need to listen to: "if you don't like our country you are free to leave"

Disgusting behaviour I hope he is okay And they find those who attacked him

That's a really smart thing to do if you suspect someone has a deadly virus. Close in on them, make them breath on you and then use your bare hands to touch them, hit them and make them bleed for good measure, just in case the airborne exposure from proximity wasn't enough.

No description of the attackers?

Thai people crying "racism"? That's hilarious!!! Every government should single out Thai people and treat them equally to the way the Thai government treats foreigners. Every government should impose equal tariffs on products made in Thailand. Dual pricing for Thais and Thailand world wide!!!

No mention of the race of the attackers in the guardian article. 90% of the time that means it was a black or "Asian" perpetrator. When a Caucasian assaults a minority it is splashed all over the place. Ah well, just part and parcel of living in London, eh there Mayor Khan.

You would think if they were worried about him being sick they would have ran away.  Not have gotten closer and exposed themselves to more of his body fluids.

I am guessing you were signing your name at the end. Just how many muggings have you seen? I have seen none in 17 years and I witnessed so much more violence and racism when I lived in London(which is where I come from).

So you know for a fact this bloke has been personally racially vilifying other people?

Of are you saying he should be taking responsibility for the actions of others?

You mean how Thais single out foreigners because they are white and go beat the snot out of them. Yeah that happens so so so often.

Say what you will about Thailand, but to say it's unsafe because of violent thugs that target foreigners is just plain wrong.

He got mugged, that's pretty clear, as for the average yob using a five syllable word as a racial epithet - please!

You see foreigners beaten up and robbed in the street here on a daily basis do you?  Really?

Are you referring to the Hua Hin incident? If so, there was a bit more to it than just an attack by strangers.

I knew the couple from my Hua Hin days, both heavy drinkers.

Whilst racism is certainly not ok...It always makes me scratch my head when I see this type of reaction from a Thai national!

As  westerners are constantly battling Xenophobia in Thailand yet our embassies (and theirs) don’t even batt an eyelid at it!

funny how it works when the shoe is on the other foot!

Absolutely not the case.  For petty crime they do absolutely zilch.

My nephew has been mugged three times in London recently and the police couldn't care less.  Just last month he was mugged twice in one day and the police were basically accusing him of making it up.

Oh, and for the racists who are posting that it must be Muslims, couldn't be white people or "proper" English people, the three times my nephews has been mugged were all by white kids.  Once with knives, twice without.

Same racial profiling Africans in Thailand suffered during the scourge of Ebola. What goes around comes around. Sorry!!!

The Guardian report had him taking a Uber to hospital, with no mention of Thai Embassy staff. So,my guess would be embellished.

I thought Uber had lost it's licence in London!

Absolute chav scumbags did this. I feel for the guy, hopefully they will get caught and no 500 baht fines please.

I also feel for foreigners here who get beat down 7 on 1, even if it was for being an annoying drunk. We all make mistakes.

i dont know why this is such an important story , i see violence in uk every day with yobs , cant even go on a night out in a city without running into such animals thats one of the reasons why im over here to go out and have fun but still seen a few incidents over here but it is less likely than uk

Agreed. My car broke down one night in Greenwhich when I used to work nights. I was wandering around looking for a phone box and the police pulled up and the young sh!thead in the passenger seat wound down his window and said " head or guts", I said "what?" and he replied "where do you want me to hit you?". I was ready for action and angrily told him about my car and looking for a phone box(there was some aggression and swearing). Next thing a van full of coppers turn up and I was put against a wall and searched. I still regret not getting his number.

The police are pretty useless as far as I am concerned, and there is never one when you need one.

I am white by the way.

Anyway, there is racism from all sides in London and there are also alot of mixed race gangs.

IMO- the young man was targetted because he had on expensive headphones and the thugs only interest was stealing them. As they approached and realized he was not a native Englishman- they threw in the words corona- which could have beed viewed as racial-  had he been a white Anglo- they most likely have  gone after the headphones  anyway.

Street crime is a problem in large cities Worldwide but in Thailand, I have found it to be rare .

As far as racism- I have found it to have increased over the past decade- everywhere to include Thailand although in Thailand it is more subtle than explicit.

There is a complete lack of leadership regarding  foreigners everywhere- Government leaders have become less responsvie to Racism and discrimination. In every country of the World- income disparity has caused an increase in the poor and marginalised populace.  Foreigners and Immigrants have become popular targets of the population to blame for ineffective leadership- whether it's in Thailand or abroad.

When you have Presidents; Prime Ministers and even Health Ministers that use vulgarity; racial epitthets - the general population starts to believe this type of behavior is the norm.

The real fact is that foreigners everywhere are not the reason society and economies have declined and not been responsvie to the needs of all their people's.

The real reason is the greed; avarice and corruption of the elite and leadership. The average person is just a pawn in the deception.
