PHUKET: All beaches in Phuket have been closed by order of the Phuket Governor to combat the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus.

 

The order, following the decision of the Phuket Communicable Disease Committee, which Phuket Governor Phakaphong Tavipatana chairs, came after 8pm tonight (Mar 28).

 

The order is effective immediately, and will remain in effect until at least April 10.

Back from my morning beach run. At Patong beach all same like every morning.

Shaole, beach cleaners, walkers, runners but no more beach business like jet ski and beach chairs.

Keep it this way then it's great.

agree, yesterday afternoon on kamala, no chairs, no jet skis, no massage

nothing but the sea an sand and less than 100 people.
its was nice

 

Just had a look  at Kamala, if you did not read thaivisa or go online, u'd not know the beach is closed,

No signs, people out in the water, kayaking, walking along the nearly empty beach..

Cant see them stopping anyone

The same with parks. There's no logic in closing phuket parks. 

 

Most people in the parks are on their own (Running/Walking/ Relaxing), keeping a safe distance. Getting fresh air and staying healthy

 

There are lifeguards on the beaches and maintenance workers in the park. Give them orders to get them to split up groups

 

No need for an alright ban and counter productive. People need fresh air and nature during the day to keep healthy.

The best part of the announcement is the decision to close Phuket Zoo and all other shows involving animals.

 

I assume Phuket Fantasea did close after initially flouting the rules. Can someone confirm?

On the way to get groceries, I drove down Patong beach road. The only people I saw were a few lifeguards - no people, jet skis, etc. I would have thought some of the few remaining tourists might not had heard of the closure. Perhaps the lifeguards were telling any people that came to the beach that they should leave. I was surprised no one was there.

 

I noticed that each end of Bangla road was barricaded and had a police officer stationed there. Very, very few people out. Big C had a few customers and the shelves are still full.

Phuket Closures

Global Warning - Level 3, Avoid Nonessential Travel—Widespread Ongoing Transmission

 

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta has issued a Global Level 3 Warning.  Travelers are advised to Avoid Nonessential Travel.  This advice mirrors existing guidance from the U.S. State Department.

Key Points:

• Widespread ongoing transmission of a respiratory illness caused by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) is occurring globally.
• CDC recommends that travelers avoid all nonessential international travel.
• Older adults and people of any age with serious chronic medical conditions are at increased risk for severe disease.
• There may be limited access to adequate medical care in affected areas.
• US residents may have difficulty returning to the United States.
• Travelers should avoid contact with sick people and wash their hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
• All international travelers should stay home for 14 days after returning from travel, monitor their health, and practice social distancing.

Sitting behind their office desks and decide that if some are sick in the Nation you all shall be in quarantine.

Btw, anyone living near Nai Harn beach and eventually could share some info about getting to the water without making waves as to disturb or wake up any official. Beach in it self I dont care about but I use to swim laps in the ocean there 2-3 times a week in high season so a way to get in the water (or do they close???? the Andeman sea) preferably legal had been great to know about.

I have seen the police and lifeguards go after swimmers in various beaches, in Kata the lifeguards on jetski went after a guy and told him to come out...

 

I think stopping people in single or couples to swim is just crazy, can say no larger groups of adults allowed, can easily be monitored, but that won't be as spectacular like this I guess....! I can't see any spreading happening on the beach,  but markets or supercheap or mosques/temples or boxing stadiums, or immigration offices that's what they should be worry about...

 

By the way, get ready for Covid-20 when Wuhan wild animal markets open again, would they ever stop...!

I have a family member who works there many staff are doing renovations to the infrastructure. The employer has been generous to laid off staff and is guaranteeing salaries for most.
