A good, heavy downpour would be most welcome to freshen everything up, but these storms can also bring a lot of destruction, particularly in rural areas. Roofs blown off, trees uprooted or stuck by lighting. They pretty much always knock our electric out, sometimes for as long as 5 to 6 hours.

April 9, 20205 yr The screenshot shows a storm cell way up over eastern Chiang Rai. I wonder if it rained in Chiang Khong. Someone already mentioned wind direction. That's a big factor. There are mountains between Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. Same for Phayao.
