I believe the amnesty extension is very worrying, in that they know something that we don't and are not making it public.

The visa extension is about borders remaining closed and international airlines not operating for still quite some time.

Difficult to imagine what is going to reopen or not.

I hope that swimming pools will be included.

Otherwise, we should pay attention to the provinces' colors.

They probably have introduced this classification for a reason, and maybe the green provinces could expect more short term freedom than the red ones.

As for alcohol, which I don't consume at all, they can't expect the help of big business/money and at the same time deprive many of the tycoons from a large part of their income...

On the contrary, I think it's a positive sign as they obviously believe the borders will reopen and departing flights resume before 31 July and all those covered under the amnesty will have been able to get home or do their border run.

Obviously they know the borders will be closed another 3 months with little or no flights out.

Many provinces had brought in booze bans before Bangkok decided to act, starting with Sakon Nakhon on March 31. Buriram was next on 2 April and with an end date of 30 April. The alcohol ban was brought in on a province by province basis, with different start and end dates - expect it to end the same way, not on a nationwide basis. As of April 21, 44 of the 77 provinces (57%) had not had any new cases for more than 14 days, making them essentially C-virus free. I expect travel restrictions between adjoining C-virus free provinces to be lifted in the near future, with travel in and out of provinces still reporting new cases to remain restricted. As far as bars are concerned, I expect them to open (on a province by province basis) when that province has had no new cases for a month. I am expecting to have a beer in my local bar in Udon on 1 June.

restaurants with spacing proberly will be allowed

Phuket a few days back were announcing the grand opening May 1st

The government have announced only provinces with no Corovirus  in the last two weeks will be considered

Get real!! There isn't a normal anymore. I am not one to preach doom and gloom but if you read Bloomberg, 'When 8 trillion dollars of global fiscal stimulus isn't enough' or reuters, 'the UK has suffered the biggest financial turndown since 300 years, it doesn't bode well. There are sufficient medical experts saying that corona isn't going away and will stay around the globe for ever, there appears to be no immunising effect of having had covid-19, you can have it repeatedly, there are people who have been cured and show no symptoms but still have Covid-19 active in the body for months. I assume that what will happen is 'to hell with it, open up come hell or high water' the world economies can't handle this for months on end.

What is worse is that this is just a prelude of what is to come if epidemic experts are to be believed, the encroachment of man into natural habitats of wild animals is making the 'jump over' of viren from animals to humans now very likely. A British expert in such matters was called to Mongolia because goats were dying in massive numbers and also infecting deer and other animals, the viren can't, as yet, be transferred to humans but only two small tweaks are needed in the amino acids to allow this, the death rate for goats is 75%.

Agreed. The problem with booze is they have stated AFTER songkran that its now part of the solution so how will they back down from that? Plus side effect is big drop in road deaths .No alcohol until July

By that logic, why end of July, why not end of the year? Or ban it until we get a vaccine?

Without the bars, a gogos, and tourists Pattaya will never get back to normal. It will be a long summer.

Yes indeed, and when tourists are allowed back in, it will be the CHINESE who will be first to pour in and take-over the closed and defunct businesses!

everyone i know that has been to thailand were not at all interested in going to any beach or adventure, or thai food.

seeing a different culture yes, but you can see that in any country. If thailand didnt have the cheap bars and girls....

Nah - dont buy this viewpoint.  Just in the last month more than 12 Russian families have come to stay (illegal AirBnB renters) at our condo complex.  Also young Russian couples , a few Indian families, and several other solo "travelers".  And that is during this lockdown.

Bars and girls are not cheap.

Food and (illegal) accommodation is cheap. Escaping the Russian winter is priceless.  They love the beach, and were going there up until it shut down.

I know, I know, the wives would stop the husbands going to the bar if the owner allowed girls to work in the bar, that said, I landed one walking by one night, few drinks in between dry spells I can tell you that, nearest girly bars are an hours drive, too far for me, an hour there, and hour back, drinks, chat, short time, half the night gone, fark that.

You are joking arent you.

plenty of all that in my country, australia, not so much the cheap nites out on the booze with the girls.

absolutely everyone i know that has been to thailand were not at all interested in going to any beach or adventure, or thai food.

seeing a different culture yes, but you can see that in any country. If thailand didnt have the cheap bars and girls people would go elsewhere to where they can get those things.

That’s because you and your friends are +50 and had failed marriages.. lots of these guys come here thinking they’re in demand or they are finding true love. It’s sad, really.

AOT have made the announcement that flights will be back to normal by October.

So at least someone here realises things are not going back to normal in just a few more weeks.

Yes I saw the visa post... That's great..

Lifting alcohol ban would be a blessing..

Forget about going back to normal May 1. There will still be loads of restrictions everywhere. It will take several months until it's somewhat normal. The PM said the other day he hasn't promised anything and might not lift the emergency decree or curfew.

No, it's the opposite.  They expect the borders and flights out to resume long before 31 July, so that all those stranded here will have been able to leave!

I'm up country and have been frequenting a local waterhole for two for the past 4 years, for at least 2-3 nights a week, the bar doesn't have girls in it, it's just your local expats who get together for some usual chats, BS and a few games of pool.

Would be a breathe of fresh air to get out to have a few cold ones a for a couple of nights of the week just to stay sane, the others grabbing some spag and grub to eat, but I think there will be no discretion given there, a bar is a bar is a bar ????

I am amazed at the number of Thaivisa member who seem to have such a dependence on alcohol. Now, let the saddo emoticans commence. ????

I was told many came to our condo from Hotels that were closing all over Pattaya.

Incoming flights were "suspended" April 4th less than 3 weeks ago

On the subject of alcohol, let's not forget that every bottle bought or sold generates much-needed tax revenue for the country. Also, the big names who own the breweries will want bans lifted.

Saying that, I tend to agree with the government that the ban prevents Somchai & his buddies grouping together and not practicing social distancing, especially after drinks take their effect.

But for purely selfish reason, I hope the alcohol ban ends April 30th. I don't go out, so I have no feelings on bars and karaoke.
