Love is Love: Over 100 Couples Wed in Phuket on Valentine’s Day
Photo courtesy of The Phuket News Romance swept through Phuket Town today as more than 100 couples, celebrating love in every form, gathered at the Mueang District Office for a special Valentine’s Day mass wedding. The ceremony embraced all couples, including LGBTQIA+ partners, formalizing their unions. Led by Phuket District Chief Pairoj Srilamul, the event featured a vibrant long drum procession to welcome the soon-to-be newlyweds. As the clock struck the auspicious hour, couples passed through a stunning flower arch, marking the start of their married lives. Chief Pairoj emphasized, “This is a meaningful step in creating stability in married life. Regardless of gender, every couple has the right to express their love and commitment equally.” Duangkamol and Pornchai, together for eight years, were the first to make their union official. "Valentine’s Day felt perfect for this moment," they shared warmly. Among the couples were LGBTQIA+ partners celebrating societal progress. One couple noted, "After a year together, this step signifies both personal and social acceptance." Newlyweds received special good fortune amulets and entered a draw for a luxury honeymoon stay, while family and friends joined the inclusive celebration. As Thailand increasingly recognizes diverse relationships, today’s wedding not only symbolized commitment but also marked a significant step towards broader acceptance of love in all its forms, reported The Thaiger. -- 2025-02-14
