Vitamin D appears to play role in COVID-19 mortality rates

MAY 8, 2020

by Amanda Morris, Northwestern University

After studying global data from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, researchers have discovered a strong correlation between severe vitamin D deficiency and mortality rates.

Led by Northwestern University, the research team conducted a statistical analysis of data from hospitals and clinics across China, France, Germany, Italy, Iran, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom (UK) and the United States.

The researchers noted that patients from countries with high COVID-19 mortality rates, such as Italy, Spain and the UK, had lower levels of vitamin D compared to patients in countries that were not as severely affected.

Vitamin D linked to low coronavirus death rate

MAY 7, 2020

by Anglia Ruskin University

A new study has found an association between low average levels of vitamin D and high numbers of COVID-19 cases and mortality rates across 20 European countries.

The research, led by Dr. Lee Smith of Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) and Mr Petre Cristian Ilie, lead urologist of Queen Elizabeth Hospital King's Lynn NHS Foundation Trust, is published in the journal Aging Clinical and Experimental Research.

Previous observational studies have reported an association between low levels of vitamin D and susceptibility to acute respiratory tract infections. Vitamin D modulates the response of white blood cells, preventing them from releasing too many inflammatory cytokines. The COVID-19 virus is known to cause an excess of pro-inflammatory cytokines.

Ironic given quarrantine and lockdowns strive to keep people indoors.

I have made sure to exercise outside daily and have been supplementing vitamin d magnesium and zinc from the outset.

Inwas exercising outdoors far more heavily when I could wakeboard, happily that is now an allowed activity again and I had a glorious day in the sun yesterday.

I am well willing to participate in covid prevention theatre, wearing masks as required for the sake of others and even more so to exercise caution and hygeine on my own behalf, but beleive it is time to intelligently resume life.

There will doubtless be a "second wave" in thailand and all quarantine cultures as this virus runs its course, but the alternative of world lockdown seems equally bleak.

Recently i have heard a couple of doctors on the radio mentioning Vit D is a factor, but I don't think it's a silver bullet, otherwise everyone would be told to go outside

I wondered whether it was really the high temperature that made a difference or the endogenous generation of vitamin D through exposure of the skin to the sun. Now I know: it is the exposure to direct sunlight.

Confirmed by the fact that there is not a single report from any country in the world of a nudist contracting the virus, let alone succumbing.

Vitamin D can also be gleaned from egg yolks, fatty fish (tuna/mackerel), and cheese.

We should certainly try to catch a few rays in Thailand, perhaps early morning or late afternoon. Exercising in the mid-day sun is not a good idea imo.

This is a good thread, and worth of attention, as there is obviously a contradiction between what our leaders say it's good for our health (stay at home) and the actual reality (open air is good for your health).

They say it's good for our health to wear a mask too, but in reality that may be true if you do it for short time, while wearing a mask for a long time everyday can be indeed very bad for your health.

If you want to understand the modern medical system start at the beginning with Rockefeller, a very interesting read, improving health was never the goal. Nevertheless there are numerous doctors espousing the truth, why their videos disappear from YouTube I'll leave to ones objective thought to consider. Vitamin D and C are both cheap, can't be patented, and in abundance, no wonder they are denigrated.
