Popular Post Pravda
So, most of you hardened individuals, ex members of SAS and French foreign legion came to Thailand because you are sick and tired of life back home. You just can't see yourself paying council tax anymore, the immigrants have taken over, the snowflakes and their PC nonsense is getting on your nerves and there are just too many god damn rules you don't want to follow. So, you come to Thailand (which is essentially a third world country regarding anything law related), land of the free. The first thing you do, you rent a condo. Then your friend who probably spent one million baht sponsoring his future wife tells you "you know laws in Thailand are that you only have to pay 1 month deposit, not two and electric is charged the government rate". Outraged by this revelation you post on various Facebook forums demanding justice and threatening to sue your landlord over that 7.500 baht extra deposit on your On Nut condo with no kitchen. Ah.... but the double pricing!!!! Probably the most outrageous thing introduced by Thais just to screw over that 0.1% of foreigners who visit national parks. If you were getting dual priced over beer, maybe you'd have a point... but probably not. Oh, what about foreign students paying 2-3 times the amount of school fees back in UK, US, Canada and Australia? Most universities in these so called nanny states are subsidised by government and foreigners pay the full price. Never mind that, it's only 10 or 20 thousand dollar difference. Fun fact. Fun fact about Thailand's most hated profession. Thais get cheated and double priced too. But the most outrageous thing I read is unfortunately on this very forum. Some of you suggested that because Thais are charging too much for Hotels in this post covid crisis they should be swept by Tsunami like the past. Rally nice. Reminds me of one guy in Cambodia ranting on internet forums that Cambodia is developing too fast, so his Western pension won't be able to support hookers anymore. I guess all of Cambodia should starve and remain poor just so a few guys can accommodate their sexual urges. To summarise, only Westerners are allowed to make a profit and the laws should only be applied that inconvenience poor Thais. 22 14 12 4

Popular Post thequietman
No, I think what you say is incorrect. I do get upset when I can't get any level of customer care here in Thailand. However, I feel that is something even the Thai people expect, but cannot get. Yes, things work differently here, but does it really have to be like this? It's not a sense of entitlement or privilege, just a basic requirement in any civilised country, of which Thailand is one. ????

Popular Post phetphet
Nothing to do with double pricing. More to do with value for money. If I think a hotel is too expensive, I book a different one within my price range. If I want to visit a particular National Park I will pay the fee. Other parks I won't because I don't think it is worth the money. Same with other tourist attractions. And why do you presume that all these Thais making a profit are poor?

I had one of them a while back. About 2 years is all it takes for them to lose their looks and turn into chubby hausfrau's. If you want an attractive woman on your arm, better to rent. Electricity, I've always paid the official rate because I'm not stupid. Hotel pricing, if it's more than 500bht, I won't be staying there. Cambodia, I stay in a nice hotel in Siem Reap, $12/night air-con and nice pool, beer 50c/glass. With the current COVID tourist disaster they are suffering, it'll be a long time before my pension can't support me there (assuming I can ever get back in). Popular Post Bruno123
I suspect this thread will go downhill very fast. But yes to a certain extent, a certain demographic with a superiority complex is getting a reality check as we speak. No longer as easy to buy anything they want and corrupt the locals at their leisure. Now scraping the barrel and communing with the lowest of the low, complaining about the price of this and that and hoping for the collapse of the Thai economy. Often racists at heart, complaining of brown people taking over their country, whilst living in Thailand and communing with brown skinned people when they can afford it. Irony at it's finest. Western privilege indeed. 8 2 2 4
Popular Post northsouthdevide
If I didn't like it more here than my country of origin, I would move back. I don't like double pricing at national parks, And I find it difficult to tolerate the complete lack of driver training, and road safety. It even annoys me when sometimes a blue plastic pipe springs a leak, or our pump makes funny noises..... But apart from all that, I absolutely love being here in the land of smiles, and wouldn't have it any other way. 7

Popular Post Ventenio
only came to the comments, only read one. when you rant, you generally are mad at yourself. upset at your life. mad at your circumstances. if not, you would be DOING something fun, with someone, enjoying your life. Your rant only makes you feel good for a minute, and nothing good comes from it. you hope another mad person will say what you want to hear, so, great, now two mad people are friends. i have had 11 wives, 398 jobs, 33 failed businesses, 87549 motorcycle accidents, 673 closed bank accounts, 784564623 health problems......and yet my mantra is......"make other people want to see you." don't be that guy where everyone says, "oh god, here comes that guy again. what a downer!!!!"
