WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Trump administration is determined to end the Dreamers program that protects immigrants who entered the United States illegally as children within the next six months, the acting head of the Department of Homeland Security said on Sunday.

The Trump administration views the programs as unlawful and the U.S. Supreme Court - which last week ruled against the Trump administration's plan to end it - did not disagree, acting DHS Secretary Chad Wolf told NBC's "Meet the Press".

"At no point in that decision did they say that the program was lawful. They simply didn't like the rationale and the procedures that we used," Wolf said.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday blocked Trump's effort to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy put in place by former President Barack Obama, which protects roughly 649,000 immigrants from deportation.

The decision upheld lower court decisions that found that Trump's 2017 move to rescind the program was unlawful but does not prevent Trump from trying again to end the program.

Trump on Saturday said his administration would resubmit plans to end the policy but gave no details.

Wolf told CBS's "Face the Nation" the administration would keep renewing visas for the people covered by the popular program while seeking a way to permanently end it.

Asked if Trump had ruled out ending the program through an executive order, Wolf said the administration would continue to press Congress to find a solution.

But he said the president had also directed DHS to look at carefully at the Supreme Court ruling and the possibility of refiling its proposal with a different rationale.

"I'm not going to get ahead in front of the president. He's going to make that decision at the right time, but the department will be ready to make that call," he said.

Another ongoing use of typically racist fascist ideas.

Don’t deal with the drivers of unemployment, economic stresses etc. just go and find scapegoats to blame. Then vilify and focus on them all the while preaching to the masses that were doing this to protect you and your way of life.

Hopefully.

The brand of this horrible presidency is white nationalism, ignorance, cruelty, hatred, and division.

Save the dreamers.

Save the country.

See what the architect of the "Dreamers" even said about his ability to just make immigration law by executive action.
When you start to pick and choose which laws you will obey, and which ones you will ignore the country is doomed and what Obama did was illegal and the Supreme Court even said as much in its ruling.  It just gave the lame excuse that the Trump administration did not give adequate justification for wanting to end DACA  That is a B.S. ruling since if the executive action was unlawful to begin with, ending it should not be a problem irrespective of the reason.  The "Dreamers" were nothing more than a wave of underage illegals deliberately sent to the USA.  As someone who lives in Thailand I would think that you would have a greater appreciation of the hoops you have to go through to remain here versus what you propose for he USA that just allow anyone and everyone to enter with no immigration laws whatsoever.

In 6 months Trump and his goons will be history.. Anybody else smell burning toast?

You mean like in 2016? I wouldn't get too cocky yet unless you want to look like a complete horse's @ss in 2020. That being said, let's say you succeed in ousting the dreaded Orange Man. Congratulations, you just gave birth to a new wave of radical right-wing extremism. You got a doddering old careerist geezer, a virulent ethno-centric ideological base--congratulations on that, by the way--and an extremist right-wing element that is just chomping at the bit to be unleashed.
