Air Asia to start flights from Hua Hin to Udon Thani and Chiang Mai

Air Asia has announced new flight routes linking Hua Hin with Udon Thani and Chiang Mai.

The twice weekly flights will begin from 7 August 2020.

The Hua Hin-Udon Thani flight will depart from Hua Hin at 11.30 and arrive in Udon Thani at 12.55, every Friday and Sunday.

The Udon-Thani-Hua Hin flight will depart from Udon Thani at 13.25, arriving in Hua Hin at 14.40, every Friday and Sunday.

The Hua Hin-Chiang Mai flight will depart from Hua Hin at 15.10, arriving in Chiang Mai at 16.10, every Friday and Sunday.

The Chiang Mai-Hua Hin flight will depart from Chiang Mai at 10.00 arriving in Hua HIn at 11.00, every Friday and Sunday.

Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, Air Asia had operated a flight between Hua Hin and Kuala Lumpur.

The news comes after Thailand’s transport ministry last year announced plans to expand Hua Hin airport in preparation for more international and domestic flights.

The expansion includes the construction of a new airport terminal and extended runway, which once complete will more than double the number of planes that can land and treble the number of passengers the airport can handle.

The fully upgraded facility should be complete by 2022, by which time 900 passengers per hour will be able to pass through the airport terminal.

The expansion of the airport is at the centre of the “Thai Riviera” project that will increase tourism and develop some 220km of coastline along the Gulf of Thailand.

I prefer to fly in the afternoon but that would be a minor inconvenience I guess.

Maybe I will check out Udon Thani at some point.

Message to Air Asia: please add Ubon Ratchatani!

Ubon to Hua Hin? How will you ever fill a plane. They can not make it with Chiang Mai to Ubon. Air Asia stopped that flight, because wasnt worth it. Now Nok in a Dash 8 tries it......

Looking forward to Air Asia's "Fly-thru" from Siem Reap to Chiang Mai via DMK. On-line bookings now fully operational for November with bargain return fare (164 US$, 5,100 baht) BUT only if borders and health restrictions are lifted.

Well u would have your preference flying home wouldnt u! This route will be great for me as I like to spend a few days at Hua Hin beach before flying home after a winter in Esaan avoiding the taxi or bus or train logistics between BKK and Hua Hin.....And vice-versa when I arrive in October.

Having once done the Udon Thani to Hua Hin route by plane via swampy then van this would be brilliant - last time took over 6 hours each way.

Its not showing any flights or prices on their website yet!

Thought they were  in dire financial straits  right  now?

Air Asia shares have been halted as of today. They are obviously in financially difficulty and need to raise capital urgently.

I wouldn't count on any flights for the foreseeable future.

They're now available on the website and app.

And a newer thread had been setup (before I saw this one):

AirAsia mother company may be in trouble.

So far no indication that Thai Air Asia is going down.

(still a good idea not to book/pay too far in advance :whistling:)
