Dr. Thanarak Plipat says Thai people are inviting the return of COVID-19

Thai people are becoming less concerned about the prospect of a second wave of COVID-19 infections and may actually be encouraging the return of the contagion, said Dr. Thanarak Plipat, Deputy Director-General of Thailand’s Disease Control Department.

Writing on his Facebook page on Monday, Dr. Thanarak asked if the country is ripe for a second wave. His answer is “yes”, as evidenced in the behavior of many Thais “who are putting Thailand at increased risk”, citing the many stores and shops which are no longer insisting on the wearing of masks and customers appearing to be more confident about not wearing them.

“Whether the disease will return again depends on the Thai people, and I personally feel that they are not afraid of COVID-19 and want it to return,” said Dr. Thanarak, adding that this attitude is very dangerous, as he wants them to come to their senses.

Stating the obvious but the government could help by announcing that the official case reports represent an undercount.

No need to even make such accusations. Limited testing equals undercounts everywhere.

He's right. I can already hear the whistles and imagine the red flags waving, herding a covid superspreader crowd along the deserted Walking Street. Money numbah one.

My read on Plipat is that he's competent, but dancing on a political tightrope.

Nobody's inviting anything. The flu comes every year. Doesn't seem to need an invitation.

Really Covid-19 comes every year? well now that's a fine statement for you to make.  If that was the case then why all the fuss....?

Well it does seem quite strange that the UK didnt make Thailand exempt from quarantine upon arrival !!

Therefore, the country must have cases still and are not telking the people to show how good and glorious Thailand is. It is all a big government PR exercise and the foreigners will be blamed and not the Thai population. Therefore, ruining thebtourist industry further.

They seem to be continually digging the country into an economic abyss on the glorification of politics.

Okay, just another "doctor" paid by Big Pharma, W.H.O. and Bill the Psychopath.

I'm convinced that Thailand has done relatively very well up till now.

But it would be tragic to waste all the effort that represents by relaxing too much and too quickly. That doesn't mean that new lockdowns are needed but if they blow it they will be.

Please tell that to my daughter who has been working her rear end off with Covid patients flooding the hospitals she has worked at in Florida in the ICU, and now in Pennsylvania.  The virus is real, and if people would just take care of themselves so that they would not infect others by doing the right thing, then the States would not be now having to pass laws enacting the wearing of masks and closing down establishments again.  Now I await the Anti-masker brigade to chime in.....

How can it return if there is no new case since 43 days and all borders are closed, except the imported ones from Thais they are 14 days in quarantine?

I didn't say convid comes every year. Have you lost your prescription glasses during the plandemic?

Its easy to say for you Dr. Thanarak, what about if you would be amongst all unemployed people, would you be scared of Covid-19 is easy to talk when your a** is not in danger. Sooner or later if your country want to survive it will have to change that policy. Or more people will die from hunger, crime, car accidents than from Covid-19.

He's talking about wearing masks. How does that have any effect on people being unemployed?

Because official case numbers and actual reality are not the same thing.

I'll give you an example. I know of a man in another country that got a fairly severe case with classic symptoms including delirium. Described as like the flu but 10 times worse. He stupidly didn't visit a doctor much less tested.

He had been very careful before infection.

Now he complains that his province isn't opening up as they have no recent official cases.

Get the picture?

Sounds like Thailand isn't covid free at all.

If you want to catch it, in Thailand, where would you go?

oh dear   !   Khun Prayut please crack that whip of yours and gets these thai's in line.

The worse thing that could have devastating effects on Thailand is a second wave of COVID19 with high infection rates.  Please Khun Prayut Chan O Cha , fix this like you fix everything else in Thailand. :wai:

I thought there was no local transmissions of covid-19 in Thailand????

of coarse there is a small number of cases in Thailand .... it's not zero and unlikely to be zero in the future, however this just reiterates the need to pull the Thai's into line and make them responsible like the rest of us.

have to agree with the man, decided to visit Krabi beaches during the holiday and what I saw this week end is a lot of careless people, (at the beach and at some restaurants) no masks, no social distancing, no nothing, they walked around like they used to do before the virus, I am just waiting for the news infections update reports, next week should know

More like a month for potential hospital cases

Sorry but the OP is regarding Covid-19, and as you said the Flu, I assumed you were one of the 'It's only the Flu" brigade.  My mistake, but that does not mean I need prescription glasses.

If Thailand really has had no local transmission in around a month and all imported cases are being quarantined , how would a 2nd spread be possible?

Isn’t he basically admitting that there is local transmission still occurring?

Stadtler would need to go to the wrong place at the wrong time.
