Thailand expects 1.5 million foreign tourists before year end

So, that new calculation is roughly 20% of the original 40million tourists.

Tourism is supposedly 15% of total GDP.

80% of 15% GDP = 12%, representing the amount of tourism revenue reduced from total GDP.

So, ignoring slow exports, unemployment and spending and Government stimulus, how can GDP drop only 8%...Tourism alone drags it 12%, and I don't see anything making up that 4%.

Would not be at all surprised if GDP loss was in the 18-20% range...

No one like to visit Thailand with the insane measures in place,  countries around are laughing with Thailand.

Bali opens in September ....

Bali may well open in Sept but that doesn't mean there will be any foreign tourists there in Sept.  The Balinese are dreaming as bad as the Thais are, hankering for a return of their tourist hoards. Best thing they can do is accept the fact that for now the party's over.

Some time you wonder if the left hand in this country knows what the right hand is doing, when you hear contradicting statements everyday you begin to think is there anyone there that control theses statements of each to his own?...

Country?  My local hardware shop cant sync data about a screw..

I can't see any reason for a tourist to come in Thailand right now.

Quarantine, covid testing and so on are a no-no. I have to come in the country for business but I'm delaying my departure.

What Planet are these people on !!!. Probably to replace the coconut monkeys or the government..... same same but the monkeys could do a better job and they wouldn't need 3 submarines.

Somebody in the Tourism dept. is having a wet dream ,

maybe to get a higher advertising & operational budget .

We the expats / long term residents can't

even travel in / out of Thailand freely -

without being burdened by Insurance & Health Certificate .

How to hell do you expect  MASS TOURISM to return ?

According to TAT governor Yuthasak Supasorn, 6.7 million international tourists visited Thailand in the first five months of the year, before the country was closed to visitors from overseas due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

TAT's year must start on 1st November, because foreign travel into Thailand was banned when the state of emergency was declared on 25th March.

"We adjusted our forecast for foreign arrivals this year to 8.2 million from 10-12 million," Yuthasak said.

Expect to adjust them again later... Thailands entry requirements will put an end to your dreams!

1.5 million tourists is about 10,000 (or 50 aircraft per day)!  Given all the rules, this looks a little optimistic.

The plan is that when a tourist passes through immigration they will go down a corridor and depart through another immigration hall next door. From there another corridor will take them back to the first immigration where they re enter. They make this circuit 10 times and are then allowed through to collect their luggage.

This plan will boost tourist arrivals to desired levels and is very flexible to make the numbers fit.

So actually they calculate there are 1.5 million farangs who REALLY NEED to come back ?

Can't see any "tourist" with his mind to come otherwise...

I guess it's just a empty annoncement here, since facilitating tourism is obviously not a goal.

Until they take their balls in their hands and open the country. Plus let's say a covid test on departure airport and one on arrival, Thailand is doomed.

The country will just fall deeper into economic depression as they waffle on every week until they think.. OMG, it is too late to save anything  !

No way!!! Impossible, if they maintain all their great ideas against tourism... Even they release now its too late for 2020

With all the social distancing on planes, there is not enough aircraft to bring them here. And thats before all the insurance and covid tests etc...

Keeping hoping and dreaming?  The only sure thing or projection is that these leaders will go and break any and all rules to get their hair dye each month. Once anyone gets the list of things they want to enter Thailand!  bye bye Thailand it is dying and not from the Virus!

Someone obviously hasn't told the TAT the number of international flights coming into Thailand won't carry 1.5 million people. Perhaps they are hoping Chinese buses will fill the void. But isn't that where all this s##t started?

All the Chinese arriving in high-speed Bullet-Trains will save the day!!!
Wait a minute....never-mind.
