Phuket Poll: Is Phuket ready to open for ‘travel bubbles’?

PHUKET: Officials have announced that a ‘travel bubble’ trial run is to begin to determine whether Phuket is ready to receive tourists again, but in a ‘contained’ environment. The announcement received a flood of comments, ranging from clear support to sheer derision, claiming that Phuket – and Thailand – is simply not ready.

 

Readers raised many valid points, including whether Phuket receive direct international flights or whether tourists should be cleared in Bangkok first then come to Phuket, as made clear by Royal Thai Army Deputy Commander-in-Chief Gen Natthapol Nakpanit during his visit on Thursday (Aug 13).

 

However, Gen Natthapol also pointed out that the final decision as to whether travel bubbles to Phuket would be approved would be down to Phuket officials and residents to prove that the island is ready.

It's plain crazy to think that one province out of ~70 will have access to tourists....it just will not work. 

Desperation is already settled in here in Thailand, and a whole lot worse is to come. Covid is not going away.

Someone needs to get a grip on the reporting inconsistencies, one minute we are informed that there will be no opening of Thailand borders this year then the next they are talking about travel bubbles there is no wonder that there is so much confusion as to future options ..............LOL

And the Government has not even given those countries exemptions from the covid19 quarantine regulations such as covid19 tests before travelling, certified doctors letter by a Thai Embassy, the $100k insurance and compulsory quarantine. Yup they will definitely want to come to Phuket and be ripped off by the taxi mafia there.

I'm worried that in the end the top brasses will be pressed to uncontrolled open the flood gates because its now already seems they can't see the wood for the trees and we are back to start again.
